As the shorts get supplied, the de- mand will cease, and the bulls, who are now buying in ‘Large lots, will find a more limited demand when they at- temps to sell, at lower prices. The bears putout two «thousand sbares in contracts where they take in one thousand for cash. By so doing they will get short again at no distant day, but it will be at higher prices and on tonger dates. Holders of stocks are anxiously ooking for buyers at advanced rates, but they do not come, ‘Prices are already so much inflated that there is hardly ‘the possibility of afurther rise. The usual speculative @allroad stooks bold out no inducements for purchase swith the. possibility of a profit beyond present points, ‘The risk ts too great for new operators to take, and hold- ‘@me. The market is ma very curious condition; nearly the whole street are in reality sellers—the bears, be- cause they look for lower prices, and the bulls because they bave more stocks now than they can conveniently carry on ap easy money market, and because the chances are decidedly in favor of a fall. The buils are ina very extraordinary position, and we wish them well out of it. ‘With more stooks than they can easily hold under the «most favorable circumstances, they dare not sell, for fear -of depressing the market seriously, and they are afraid ‘to buy, or rather unable to buy, all that the boars offer, 0 keep up prices. The bulls can only sustain prices by Duying more stock; but it is hardto do this when they already bave more than they want. This ia the actual ‘position of things in the stock market, ard it appears to us not a very difficult matier to tell which party will in ‘che end come off best. There were shipped by the Lebigh Navigation for the woek ending on Saturday last, 36,213 tons, against 46,531 ‘tons for corresponding week iast year. For the season, «up to tho 6th inst., the toruage is 77¥,90) tons, being 38,091 tons leas than to corresponding date last year, ‘The tonnage by way of the Lebigh Valley Railroad i: 99,402 tuns, which increases the production from the ‘Lehigh region, over the amount to the same time last year, 16,371 tons. The faling off from the Schuylkill Tegion ts 166,045 tons. Of this decline the Schuylkill Canal suffers 631 tons, and the Reading Raiiroxd Com. pany 165,414 tons. For the week ending of Thursday “the canal brought down 32,797 tons—1,641 tons more + than corresponding week last year, making an aggregate for the ecason of 744,783 tons.
