6 FINANCIAL AND COMMERCIAL. MONSY MARKG®. Sareapay, June 7—6 P. M. There was @ pretty active busiuess ia stocks this morning, and prices were without much alteration. Canton Company advanced % per cent; Reading, \; Ditnois Central Railroad, {; Chicsgo and Rock Island, Mj Milwaukie and Mississippi Reilroad, %. Mishigan Southern fell off \{ per cent; C.evelima and Toledo, \. Erie and Reading were in dem+n’, and soid in large lots. At the second board the market wasa shade or two Jower. New York Centra}, Erie, Ci-ve'and and Toledo, ‘and Hudson River fell off sbout %{ to 3 per cemt eash, but there wes no business of 'mportance transacted. The steamship Baltic, from this port to Liverpool to- day, carried out only $102 047 63 im specie on freight, most ot which was io gold bars, This was the oaly shipmient of epecie from this port this week. ‘The anthracite cos! trade is now vary active. The ton- page by the three lines connec ing tue mines with Philadel- yhia were, by their lact weekly rep.rts, larger than ever before in eny one week, reaching tne very large tonnage of 126,065 tons. The shipments by the Lehigh Nariga- tion for the week ending om Saturday Jast, were 41,548 tome, and for the season, 199.587 toms, The Schuylkill Navigation brought down for the week ending on Thurs Gey, 99,104 toms, and for the ssason, 287,656 tons, against 84,272 tona last year to corresponting time, shewing a Joss of 46,617 tons, The Reading Railroad Company brought down for the week ending on Thursday last, £4,363 tons, and for the season, 838,602 tons, against 968,751 tons to corresponding date of last year, showing a tabing of of 110,149 tons. The schuylkill region, it ‘will thus be seen, is 151,667 t-rs behind the amount sup- ‘plied to present date Isct year. With # continuance of the business of the past week, this difference will soon ‘be overcome, though there is no reason to sappose that the supply from all sources will be such as to reduce prices. ‘The Aseistant Treasurer reports to-day as follows :— $178,669 84 Paid on Treasury account.. Received on Treasury account, Belanoe on Treasury account. Paid for Aseay cffice.. on disbursing checks ce credit all accounts. The act of May 14, 1856, in amend: ment of the above set, repealing the requirement of record evicenes, accounts for the large issue of warrants for revolutionary service. The Ci\izens’ Fire Insarsnes Company have declared a semi-annual dividend of 1235 per cent. the receipts of the Richmonc and Danville Railroad Company for April, this year, amounted to.. $42,280 12 Same month last year 25,981 20 Increase... The hesvy auction sales are also over for the season. The (mporta’ioas ia ‘the aggregate during the past quarter of the fiaanc'a! year, though large, it appears by the late report cf the Secretary of the Treasury, were still und+r the amouat of ‘our exports by about seven miliions of dollars, And siace the date of that report our exports bave beeo more ac- tive, including a revival in the shipment of breedatuffs. Let the crops in Europe promise what they may, there is 4 pericd between this time and the ingstheriag of their harvests which will require consi¢eraple supp ies of brea4- stuffs to mest their wants, aad which must be had from this country, Tbe critical pericd for the foreign crops, and particularly for those in England, hasn st been reached y and should the prospests be clouded by unfavorab's cir cumstances, we may expect to see @ dact*e1 echance- ment in the prices of breadstuffs. Germany acd the north of Europe have had to import grain largely, within the past six months, from the United States. Dan'zic, la Prassis, bas always been ocnsidered a large exporting town of grain. This spring a veesel was loaded in New York with grais, end cleared for thet port, a crcum- stance never before known in our foreign trade. A good fall trade is anticipated. The South and Southwest will be in a condition to consume more freely than tor seve- ral years past. The supply of cotton will exceed that of the previous year by about 700,000 bales, which, at $45 per bale, will amount to about $31,500,000: to which may be added the increased receipts from better prices. At last accounts money was quite plentiful in New Or- leans, at 7 and 8 per cent, The quotations continue satis. factory. The most delsy in making settlements exist with merchants at the West, where some have lort money by the fall im produce, and others have had their means tied up by speculations in land warrants, &c., causing their creditors at the East to give them an extension of time. During the past week the export trade in heavy cotton goods has continued good, Our best customers are found im China, Brazil and Mexico. Orills have maintained full prices, with sales of browns at 8c. Sheet- ings and shirtings have also deen well sustained. Bleached goods were firm, with moderate stocks. Print- ing cloths were in fair demand on the basis of 5i¢c. for 60 by 64 inches. Ginghams and denims were steady. We have no change of importance to notice in other arti- cles. In foreign dry goods there are no new features re- quiring special remark or notice in detail. The supplies muitable for the fall trade have not been opened or ex- hibited as yet. ‘The annexed statement exhibits the quantity and value of certain articles imported into this district during the week ending and including friday, Jane 6, 1856:— Commmice oF TE Port or NEw York—W2EK1Y Imports. 3 ‘as.
