8 A FOURIEBITE CELEBRATION. The Free Lovers at a Private Love Feast— Albert B, tebane at Home—The Marvellous Andrew Jackson Davis Eateth a Goaa Pinner. Fourier, the icmsculate free love French socialist, was born on the 7th of April, 1772. Last Mondsy even ing bis disciples met at the mansion of Albert Brisbane, in Secon avenue, to celebrate Fourier’s eighty fourth birthday, by s Danqnet, with all the accessorics of wpeecbes, toasts, &o., &c. Among the guests pressat were Mr. and Mrs, Ancrew Jackson Davis, Stephen Peail Andrews, Henry Clspp, Jr., Dr. Stamm and many other qell known sccis'ints, After the company had done ‘@mple justice to ihe delicious viands with which the ta. ble was loaded, Mr, Baisnass rose and said:—Ladies and gentlemen— We bave met here this evening for a special purpxe—no> morely to eat and drink, but to celebrate the birthday of & great anc gocd man. | propose now that we mix a little of the intellec! ual with the eocial, and call upon some of our frierds to express the sentiments which na- turally suggest themselves on such ancccasion. And first I will make, with your permission, a few remarks, and give you a toast, to which you will, I know, hearti. ly respond. Itis not thus, at the humble board of a pri vate individual, that this day should be commemorated. Nations should bow before the magnificent genius of a mind like Fourier’s—so grand in its inspiration, so won- derfully acute and logical in his style and methoa. He drought order and beauty out of contusion and deformity. and reduced to an exa:t sotence @ system in ie universe which would bring all discordant e’emeats into accord and pe:fect harmony, and with his sublims intuiticos and carefui analytical ju¢gment reduced his greet conceptions to & mathematical demons ‘ration. Brisbare continued in this strain for some time, and then proceeded to say:— And yet, with all this woncerfal power, no ran was ever so mocest, so uopretending in his estimation of himselt. I, who knew ben weil, o'ten aid to him, ‘Fourier, will you not be proud and happy when, in the fuiure, mui itudes, na ions have resognizad your work anc bow down to do you bomage?”” ‘Ah!’ he ‘would reply, “I bays done very little; with a litte com- mon sense and study of nature, a hundred mon might have cone what I have; apd it is not my glory to have done it, but their shame not to have done is before.’’ Mr. B. concluced by expressing an earnest wish thet the future weuld see # mopumert erected to Fuurter worthy of bia genius and devorion. whows base should be grarite the first tier supporting five figures, which should repre- cent the five senses, and interspersed with fruits and flowers, instruments of music, paiating and sculpture— everything, in short, which can charm the eye, or capti- vate the ear, orc -nduce in any way to man’ material happiness; ‘bigher in spiral order should rise three other figures, emblematic of the intellestaal or distrieu- tive passions; and on the top the figure of Unity, oxpress- ing the religicus—the moet powerful element ‘in man’s @cul—shou'd glori'y sud crowa the whole, He would gire asa toast, ‘The Memory of Fourier. Drunk stancing. Mrs. AxpREW Jackron Davis being called upon, eponced by raying thst it wae meizber ‘he time fcr her to wake a speech, but sbe must exores sure with which, th ongh the elognerce of the s she hac een, ip the vista of the pre-ant, the evangel of the fature, glowing and bright with the hues of the rain- bow. He said be cid not ‘eel like peaking at al. To get off a very old joxe, he was ent'sey too full for utterance. He agreed with bis triend, Mr Briebave, acd hoped if the fa ture did raise » monunen’ to Fou ist, it would be just such a one as be bad so p etical'y cescribed.
