By opening the winaow« on each side of the row, and two in becrooma, a perfect draught can be had through the suite. Ano’ber proof of the ven- tilation is the fact that du-ing one of the cholera epi- demics ‘en casts of deaths did not come under the notice ofthe agent, while ove of the opposite bouses had over fifteen deaths, and all of the iiving tenants moved away. 24. FINANCIAL AND COMMERCIAL. MONEY MARKET. Mowvay, April T—6 P. M. The stock market was active to-day, but not buoyant, All the leading speculative stocks were freely offered, but as ageneral thing lower prices ruled. Deleware and Hudson advanced % per cent, Pennsylvania Coal, 1; Galena and Chiesgo, 3. There was more activity than usual in railroad bonds and State stocks, but prices were well sustained. Nicaragua Transit opened at 14%, and closed at 143% per cent, with sales of only about five hundred shares. The New Granada Canal and Steamship Company’s steamship Ospray leaves ‘or San Juan dei Norte tomorrow, Tuesday, which gives an opportunity for those wishing to go to Nicaragus. There can be no deci ied movement in the Transit stock until the line ts permanently established again, and some guarantee is given that travel through that coumtry is safe. Wisconsin Lake Shore Rsilroad sold to-day to the extent of ten shares, at 72% per cent. This {s, we believe, the only really completed railroad in the State of Wisconsin. The construction account of this compamy is closed ani cannot be opened, for i: hss no connectiiqns to make, no'more rosd to build. The circular of De Coppet & Co., prepared for trans- mission abroad by steamship Canada, gives the following review of the bord, stock and money market for the past week :— New York, April 7, 1856. We have no prominent featare to novice since our advices of the let tmst. There has scarcely been any variaticn in our money market. Penk port ot specis is Wo moderate to affect it untavoraply, and raves of ex- spat too weak just now to create any fear of tts imme- 7 inorease. ‘The business cf the week in securities for permanent investment as well as tu those for ¢; tion has beeu moderate, and there is bu‘ little Faget oat in me market. The demand geverally has been very limited. Ramzoap Srocks.—Frie and Cieveland and Toledo have been quite animated, the former at a decline of 134 per cent. Transactions in the tliowing have been more aunived :—Michis Central, Michigan Southern, Paname, Cleveland and Pittaburg ana Milwaukie and Mississippi at a slight advance, and in g and New York Cen- tralata fractionai decline. Cleveland, Colambus and Cincinnati have dechned 2 per cent under the influence of cauces mentioned in another paragraph. Delaware end Hadeon have risen 23, per cent, and Pennsylvania Coal 1X, with a great demand. ‘Money without ary alteration, from 6a 7 per cent for loaas on call, and 7 a 9 per esnt fr business paper. Exchanges or Europe rather fiat; prinsioal business on London at 109%; Paris, 5f.173, and 5L18%. It will be seen by an advertisement in another column that the San Francisco and Sacramento Railroad Com- pany have issued proposals for the construction and equipment of the entire line, a distance of fifcy-eight miles. This must be the trunk line of railroad into San Francisco, from the East and North, and all the interior Unes must cerve as feeders or branches. The railroad system of California is destined to be of some magnitude, and if properly managed from the beginning cannot tail to be prorperous and productive. All those engaged in ita developement wil! have the benefit of all the experience of the Atlantic States, and will, therefore, avzid the dangers and difficulties which, at am early day, embar- rasced, and ip many instances ruined those immediately engeged. With the knowledge and other advan'ages of the present day, the success of newly located railroads is » matter of more certainty, and their construction a matter of Jess cost. Railroads cow commence with all theimprovements of the day, and they thus avoid all the experimenting and chunges which nearly all the old roads here had to go through with.
