Aubayy, March 21, 1858, Another bill for amending the New York city charter was presented this morning by Senator Petty. Its main provisions are, abolisaing the present B ard of Council- men, and.substituting therefor a council of fifzeea, which shall be the superior board, and eiested for two years. The city to be divided into fifteen Council districts, with out dividing any ward. The Board of Aldermen to consist ot the jsame number of members, to be denominated the imferior body, and hold office fur two years. Mr. Sickles moved, ond it was agreed to, that the several bills pro- posing to amend the charter be refered to the New York Senators. Mr. Sickles wirhed this dome for the purpose of having the views of mayor Wood expressed before the comumittee,jas the exorrieuce he has had under the present charter bas given him ample opportunity to teat 1t, and to propose sach altera'ions and + ddi'ions as in his opinicn will be for the weltare of the city. As the Aldermen and Councilmen have been heard, it is proper that the Mayor shouid also be afforded an opportunity to present his opinions. Mr. Spencer presented the report of the Commissioners of Kecords for the city of New York, in the nature ofa petition. They state they have made contracis for print- ing the indices to the conveyances recorded in the Re- gister’s office and the County Clerk’s office. They also bave bad the numerous valuable docum+nta and records in the offices ot the Register, Surrogate ani Conaty Clerk assorted, arranged and properly filed. There are ia the Surregate’s office 359 volumes of records witaout aay ia- dices except cf inventories and gosrdians’ sccounta. Ia the Register’s cflice 1,85 volumes, Svme o’ the original books of indices are in a very bad ste, and need recopying. The difficulty with this theory is, that it is in no sense practical. 1. It was stated before us, by thore opposed to this road, that the daily travel io stug:a in Broadway was upwards of 100,000.
