Galena and Chicago sold to ‘the extent of 47 shares at 110 per cont, dividend off; and 4 fow shares of Milwaukte and iisslssippi sold at 62 per ‘Cont, Reading opened at 86 aud ran upto 68 per cent, onder large purchases by # eacing bear operator. His purchases amounted to seren thousand four hundred ebares. All efforts made to depress tais stock cannot but ‘be temporarily success’uL We understand that the agent of the Fng'ish stockholders has invested every dollar sbout being received in cividends im the stock. The amcunt is said to be about two hundred and fifty thousand dollars. He will also receive about cae half of the total quantity of new stock to be issued tazder the stock dividend, not one share of whieh wil! ome upcn the market. The balance will be pretty well scattered and pretty generally held. Tho big bear was wise in coming im to-day for» big lot. He might have got it considerably cheaper s few days ago. Soom after the adjourn- ment of the first board it was reported in the street that» the Senate was in secret session, and that the Presiden: hhad sent in a message relative t» Central American af- fairs of a bdeiligerent character. This, for the m>ment, created some little excitement, but speculators are get- ting used to these waryke rumors from Washington, and new pay very little attention to them. They have been we often humbugged by them, that the effect now is but momentary. Atthe second board the most active stock was Erie, which closed firm at our quotations. A email let of Mil- waukle and Mississipp! suld at 84 per cent, boing an ad- vance since morning of 13¢ percent. After the board 843 per cent was bid aud no stock offered. Michigan Southern soid at 89 percent, boyer thirty days. The best offer for New York Central Katiroad this afternoon was 98 per cent. For Galena and Chiesgo 109 bid, 110% asked, x-dividend. Harlem, 16 per cent bid. Hudson Railroad, 27 bid.
