NEW YORK HERALD, SATURDAY, DECEMBER 15, 1855. FINANCIAL AND COMMERCIAL. MONEY MaRKBT. Fauwar, Dec. 14—5 P. M. ‘The tendency of pr'ces in the stock market is still ui ward. With increasing activity among operators, the improvement in curr ent value appears to be gradual but steady. At the first board to-day Missouri 6’s advanced 3 per cent ; Illinois Central Bonds, % ; Nicaragua Tran. sit, 3 ; Brio Railroad, % ; Reading Railroad, 1 ; Galena and Chicago, % ; Michigan Central, 1; Michigan South- era, X; Cleveland and Toledo, 3. In ail others previous prices were fully maintained, except Harlem, which fell of % pec cont from last sale. In some of the tancies there were large transactions, Erie has taken a pretty decided turn upward. There was quite a scarcity of cash stock to-day, notwithstanding the quantity known to be on the market. Reading is one of the best purchases on the market at present prices. It is pretty certain that there will be a ten per cent dividend in January, part ash and part stock, which makes it now equal to about 0 per cent—cheap enough,'we should thick, for a regular fifteen per cent investment. State stocks and railroad bonds have become quite active again, at better prices, Atthe second board there was a pretty general im- provement. Illinois Central bonds went up % per cent; Nicaragua Transit, 3¢; Cleveland and Toledo, 1; Cumber- and, }{; Reading Railroad, 3; Erie, 5;. Alarge portion of the transactions this afternoon were for cash. There appears to be a universal movemoat upward, and the gredval manner in which the market {a appreciating is in ita favor; but we do not see any real basis for the rise, In one or two stocks there are plenty of good strong reasons for the advance, while in all others the margin is decidedly on the opposite side of the book. The brokers are putting up priceson each other. Outsiders are out of the market entirely, and are likely to remain out. Prices are already too much inflated to tempt new par- ties, and we must therefore look for sudden fluctuations. ‘The advance may not only be arrested any moment, but we may see violent reactions at the o>ening of the board any day. The movement in Erie is not different from that in any fancy stock on the list, only {t has been on a more. extensive acaie, and has therefore attracted more atten- tion, Sellers will become plenty after a farther advance. Both holders and speculators for s fall are undoubtedly anxiously looking for points a little higher, to realize and to put out short contracts, The bears not involved with shorts have no objection to see a further inflation, and folders cannot lose if buyers are plenty. The Aspinwall steamer must be near at hand, with about one and «half million of dollars on board. The steamer of the Nicaragua line, with the same dates from San Francisco, has been in four or five days. The steam- ship Union, from this port, for Southampton aud Havre, to-morrow—Saturday—will not take outa large amount of apecie. The rie Railroud Company earned in November, $536,616 06, against $488,702 84 for the same month last year, showing an increase of $48,824 12—equal toa frac- tion over ten per cent, ‘The Assistant Treasurer reports to-day as follows:— Paid on prmeeeyacennnh Received Balance do. The dividend will embrace the unpaid portion of the coupons of July, 1861, (that is, leas the portion paid by the State of Itinois,) and the entire coupons due in January and July, 1852.
