Consels 88 1-2, &e., &., &e. BY THE HOUSE PRINTING TELEGRAPH, 21 WALL BT. Haurax, Oct. 9, 1855. The royal mail steamship Canada, Capt. Stone, from Liverpool on the 29th ult., arrived here at 7:20 this even- ing. The C, nailed at 9 o'clock P. Sept. 29, off Point Lynas, passed ships Lucy Thompson and Columbia, bound into Liverpool. ‘The steamship Hermann arrived out at Southampton on the 24th September. Active operations have been resumed in the Crimea. ‘The Grand Duke Constantine arrived at Nicolueff on the 20th, and it was sail the Crar himself would shortly visit that place to superintend the winter Crimean cam- paign. The Russian treasury has received large sums of money through Berlin, A fearful tempest had occurred at Sebastopol, with very heavy rains. On the 17th of September the Turkish troops at Con- stantinople, intended for Asia, were sent to Eupatoria. THE WAR. AFFAIRS AT SEBASTOPOL. Prince Gortschakoff telegraphs, under date the 23d, September, that the allies had landed 20,000 men at Eupa- toria, ang had 30,000 on the Russian flank. On the 22d, the allies attacked the Russian infantry, and the latter retreated to the heights over Rusta. Another despatch from Gortschakoff, dated the 26th, states that on the previous day 33,000 of the allies had debouched from Eupatoria, and occupied the neighboring villages on the left flank. Gortschakoff reported on the 17th that the allies had attempted nothing up to that date on the north side, but were concentrating their forces between Balaklava and the Tchernaya, and constantly reconnoitreing the left wing of the Russians from the Baldr valley. The loss of the Russians is estimated at eighteen thou- sand men, Despatches from Sebastopol, of the 16th, announce that the Russians were fortifying themselves in the north part, and were constructing new batteries; and that the French were advancing cavalry and a columa of infantry towards Backshi-serai by the Baidir road, Sebastopol is to be razed and the basins filled up. Letters from the camp mention that the allies were actively preparing for a campaign. The correspondent of the Paris Patric, under date of Sept. 26, says:— Eyer since their retreat the Russians have sostaees to Bre shells atus, audit would be a tnlstake to sup that our armies in Sebastopol are beyond the range ject 's batteries on the northern shore and on the pla- teau. The balls from Fort Constantine reach beyond Strelitzka Bay, and they can very easily throw their pro- jectiles into The town. As to the batteries of the ober forts, some of the ge in them are so powerful that they can carry shot right vver the town and do execution in the advanced siege works; but although the Russian fre does not cease it, is not very active. The artillery and engineers in Sebastopol are ‘everywhere at work. "Fort St. Nicholas, which was left almost intact, has been for- tified, and its eannon already replies to the enemy. Any attempt of the Russians to returm to the place is wholly t of the question. A letter from Berlin, dated the 22d, say:— Various cireumstances at St. Petersburg seem to indi- cate that Prince Gortschakoff will soon evacuate the forts to the north of Sebastopol, those forts being only strategie points; but great preparations are making by the Russians for » winter campaign. From three to four hundred deserters, most of them Poles, bad arrived at the allied camp. They stated that the demoralization of the Russian army was most com- plete, and that such was the confusion, from the firat mo- ment of the attack, that the soldiers, exhausted with fa tigue, remained for twenty-four hours without provi- sions. The Anglo-Turkish contingent would go to Trebizond, and be placed under Omer Pasha, It was also announe- ed that considerable bodies of French troops had been sent to Eupatoria, English war material is constantly passing through Prussia for the army. The Cossacks had taken twenty-five prisoners while foragivg at Kertech. THE WAR IN ASIA. Vienna despatches say that Kars was greatly straitened for provisions, and that the garrison was cating horse flesh. Advices from Trebizond, dated 6th Sept, ansoum that the Russians had abandoned Erzeroum and were at Malagulemia. THE BALTIC. Dawtaie, Friday Sept. 28, 1856. ‘The eteamer Bull Dog bas arrived here with mails from the fleet. All the high pressure block ships had left for Fogland. The weather here continues unsettled. The Zimes Pari« correspondent writes on the 27th, that the Paltic fleet will winter at Kiel. Greece. THE EPYECT OF THE FALL OF SEBASTOPOL. Letters from Athens state that the news of the fall of Sebastopol had produced the greatest consternation among the partisans of Russia, who were always boasting ot the impossibility of the allies succeeding. The minis- ters waited on the French and English ambaemadors to offer their warmest congratulations. A circular had been throughout the kingdom Mazza has retired fre ment will be the rame, and no change ir to take the conduct of the police towards politically su«pe sted persons, The Minister of War, Prince lachetclloy who opposed the arbitrary proceedings of Marz teen dismissed. the police authoritien ing that although voll:y of the govern: Austria, The Austrian government has caused the publication of the following announcement in its acknowledged offi- cial organ, the Austrian Correspondence The new stave of leone may give occasion to a diplo matic contest or « sanguinery strife between Russia and the Western Powers, but it will im no way affect the mediatory attitude of Austria. Denmark. The Folkshing, now in session at Copenhagen, hax defi nitely approved, by a vote of 64 to 44, of all he proposed constitutional changes. Commercial Intell! . The ship William Penn, Captain Cole, from the Chincha Islands, bound to Hampton Roads, was wrecked on the morning of the 20th ult., on Cape Hatteras Shoals, and it is probable that fifteen of her crew met a watery grave. She had twenty-five persons on board, and soon after she struck she went to pieces, and allon board were left to the mercy of the waves, on pieces of the wreck, &c. Nine persons, including the Captain’s wife, got on the top of the house that was on deck, and had floated off, and after being tossed about for sixteen hours, without provisions or water, were picked up by the brig Marcus, Captain H. K. Eldredge, from New York, bound to Union Island, Ga., who cid everything in his power to make them as comfortable as possible. After remaining on board the Marcus ti) Friday last, the Sth inat., tho steamship Knoxville, Captain Ludlow, from New York, bound to Savannah, came along side, and they were transferred to that vessel, and taken to Savannah, where they arrived next morning. While on the Knoxville, a subscription was set on foot by Captain Ludlow, to aid the suffers, and the sum of one hundred and twenty: seven dollars and fifty cents was immediately collected for that purpose. The following are the names of those eaved by Captain Eldreage:— Mrs. Mary ©. Cole, captain’s wife; Dr. ©. T. Bourne, rd and Thomas tedden, James Lohan, Charles Betts, “ita Dubois, John C. ‘Thompson, Thomas Git more and John HI. Snow, weamen. The following named persona were last seen on a raft:— Benj. T. Wood, of Nantucket, first officer; George H. Hall, of Mass., second officer; James Price, John George, Mn Burg, Joseph Desola, Charles H. Titus, John Steele, ‘Thomas Salmon and Louis Fleetwood. The captain was last seen on the mizenmast. George Humphries and Timothy Merlean sunk in sight of the ship. Albert Fige and Francis Wilson drifted off on a boat, and the steward, it is supposed, was swept off the topgallant forecastle. A telegraph despatch in yesterday's Flenaiy, from Charleston, stated that the captain was picked ap y the schooner C. C. Stratton, and arrived at that place Sn the h inst., which makes ten out of the twenty-five known to have been saved.
