: 8 en ee ‘The Probibitory Liquor Law. BEroRTS OF THE LICENSED AGENTS UNDER THE NEW LIQUOR Law. ‘There is some curiosity about as to whether there are poy licensed agents in the city under the new Liquor law, ped ff 50, what good has been effected by their ap- ointment. We learn that there are just six persons fh the city who have availed themselves of the provisions of this model act, and of these four have made their re- ports, in accordance with the law, to the County Clerk in Zhe City Hall. We purpose to state a few facta in con- mection with the sale of liquor by these licensed dealers, Gor the edification of the temperance community in gene- ral, and the Carson League in particular. When the law for the suppression of ‘“‘Intemperance, Pauperism and Crime” was passed, the Judges of the Court of Common Fleas framed a blank declaration and w@ndertaking in accordance with the provisions of the act. We endeavored to obtsina copy of it for publica- tion previous to the law going into operation, but owing £o the clerk of the Court fearing to lose a few sixpences ahereby, we were unable todo so. The following is a copy: — DECLARATION. However, thus far no accident has occurred; and I teust the sane’ special providence muy rule to the end of tie chapter, ‘esterday was much occupied in drilling, and it is nly a great pity that more time could not be spent in such instruction. Atter such preparation and expense five days are insufficient. I wat the several brigades regiments closely, and while it was easy to perceive the Army Regulations and Scott’s taciics were the guides, it was alko caay to notice too many departures from the text. The commas, as Inid down, were not followed, but others, sounding something like them, sub- stituted; incertitude as to places and action among the ficld and staf was apparent, and disorder arising from the looseness of these large screws in the mil y machine:y. This should not be, and is with excuse, How can the taught be proficient, when the toachers are deficent? In one brigade, pass- ing in review, I noticed some field officers conspicu- ous for trapping and clegant horses, while marching the second time around in quick time, salute the reviewing officer, while the poor dusty lieutenant on fool knew hotter, snd kept his sword “at a carry.
