NEW YORK HERALD, FRIDAY, AUGUST 10, 1855. . 5 yent first class twenty-five foot house can now be built considerably cheaper than it could a year or twoago. A vory good first class sixteen feet eight inches frout house can now be built for 26,000 or $7,000. Other widths front cost in proportion. We have spoken of this class of houses for the pur- pose of remarking that capitalists greatly prefer to Joan their moxey in smaller sums on good $8,000 houses, such as we haye described between Kighth and Niath avenues, rather than to loan say $10,000 on a $20,000 house. They like the $20,000 houses, amd they like the streets, and they love the little children, admire the ladies, and respect the men, but they don’t like to risk so many egys in one basket. ‘The merchants and brokers, they say, who own aud eccupy these houses have heen known to fail, Schuy. Yerize, disappear suddenly, aud leave perplexing accounts behind them. Accidents, too, will happen nm the best regulated establishments. Wars also will spring up, drouths will come, and devastating fires Jeave ruin behind them. Tie conclusion is, that while capitalists are very willing to lend ou such se- ourity, they will positively insist ou diminishing the amount loaned to such « degree as seriously to ei barrass the unfortunate builder. It only remains for us to say, on this branch of the bt ei that there is avother class of houses on which Heaven help the man who wants to borrow money. We mean tevement houses. The prejudice pera them is deep, wide, and very strong. We ribe them. take another apportnity, to They have become an inevitable uecessity—a regular New York institution. They deserve special consi- eration, and shall have it. We only add, in conclu- sion, that itis a description of property on which capitalists will not loan money. Theatres and Exhibitions.
