FINANCIAL AND COMMERCIAL. MONEY MARKET. Turepax, Jane 26—6 P. M. ‘The excitement in Wall street is on the increase again. The bulls are again in the sscendancy, ani we look for snother inflation. At the first to-day, Ilinols Central bonds advanced 4 per do, Freeland, 3; Cumberland, }; New York Railroad, 1; Harlem, }; Reading Railroad 4; Exie, 4; Michigan Central Reilroad, }; Cieveland and Pitteburg, 3; Galena and Chicago, 14; Cleve- land and Toledo, 1}; Chicsgo and Rock Istand, 1. California 7's declmed 3 per cent; Nicaregas Trausit, 4, There was more activity in State stocks to-day it i end Missouri 6's sold largely. Railroad bonds have gain become active. The rapidi’y with which the linois Central Railroad Company is disposing of ita lands, is attracting purchasers for the bonds, and the sales today were quite large. There is nothing of importanes doing in bods of other com- panies. We notice a sale of Virginia and Tennessee Railroad second mortgage bonds at 73 per cent, the first public sale of the new iesue. Railroad stocks of all classes were in demand to-day, at bat ter prices. Exie was particularly active, aud im- proved from the opeving. Upwards of six thousand shares were sold at the first board. It closed very firm at the advance. The result of the n2gotiations which have for some days been going on between the Erie and Central, relative to through passen- gers—both first class and emigrant—will soon be an- nounced, and we believe it will be satisfactory to all parties. These companies must either work toge- ther upon fair and equitable terms, or they must g> in for the most desperate competitions, in which bota would be serious cufferers. The Erie Company have made the fairest propositions to the Central Com- pany; and if all the difficulties are not amicably ad- juated, it will be the fault of the latter oompany. Afew dsys will decide all the questions at issue. We have no doubt large purchases of Erie were made to-day in anticipation of a favorable se:tlement. Reading was a little more buoyant to-day. The report that the July dividend would be four per cant, is pret‘y generally believed; and, although much disappoiat- ment is expressed, the hope of larger returnsin Janusry affords some consolation to permanent holders. Cleveland and Toledo Railroad sold to an ‘unusual extent today, and we notice a good many speculative transactions. It strikes us that this stock is not high at current rates, and we do no’ gee what basis the bears have for their operations, All the roads diverging from Chicago are doing well, and their stocks are steadily working up- Chicago and Rock Island should command prices follas high as Galena and Chicago, but none og them are worth more than par. After the atjournment of the board, the follow- ‘ing sales of bonds and stocks were made at auction by Simeon Draper:— $11,000 N, Y. & Harlem B.R , 1st mort., int. added,901¢ 1,000N. At the second board a very buoyant feeling pre valled, and lesa ‘disposition was exhibited to sell. At the cloge, holders were firm at our -quotations. The sales at the Minirg Stock Board to day ware a3 follows; — 1,060 shares Conrad Hil pref, Mr. J. Thompson will sell, on inst., at the Merchants’ Exchange, at half-pas: twelve o'clock, a large lot of Indiana State stocks, by order of the Auditor, for account of several guspended binks of that State. ‘The annexed statement exhibits the gros in- come of the Harlem Railroad Company in each of tke first five months of the past three years:— New Yore cg = a Rarzoap, 1854. 1856. $77,795 $02,805 63,457 78,896 16,971 1 72,760 17,875 82,150 85,288 $372,123 $415,026 bee an increase every month this year compared with last, while in each of the first five months of 1854 there was a falling off compared with 1853, except in January. The transactions at the Assistant Treasurer's office to-day, were as follows:— Paid on treasury account, Received do. The United States Hotel ‘Company, of Boston, has declared a semi-annual dividend of 2 per cent. The Boston and Lowell Railroad declared a dividend of 3 per cent. The sarual meeting of the stockholders of the Taunton Branch Railroad Company was held at the office of the Treasurer, in Boston, on the 25th inst. From the annual report, read at the meeting, it sp- pears that the income for the year ending May 31, 1855, was $90,539 33, Expenses, (which include every kind of expenditure on the road,) $55,321 46, Net earn'ngs, $36,217 92, This road is entirely ont of debt, and has for the past twelve years declared an annu@ dividend of 8 per cent. A semi annual dividend of 4 per cent, payable Jaly 2, has been lately declared. The meeting made choice of the following disectors:—-W. A, Crocker, F. Homer, N. H. Emmons, 8. Frothingham, W. Sturgis. Still other large sbips ere hauled up there, and quitea mumber of captains have come North and left them. Quite a number of these ships are of the largest class. Going down from English or American ports in ballast, and aga must leave a respectable loss for those concerned. Clipper ships are doing much better, and while, aajwe predicted, the latter ships would be almost ueeless in dull times, it shows that they are very re- spectably employed, and bid fair to continue ao. business is not #0 depressed as the domentic business of this country, for which the moat of the greater class of vessels are employed. Smaller navigut‘on feels the change, and the earnings are very small, the coasting trade being literally nothing. We hear that offers are even made below these dgures. A correspondent sends us the fellowing commu: nication in relation to the through freighting busi- ness of the New York Contral Railroad Company:— Can the atockhoidéra of the New York Central Rail- road be aware of the responsibility that they are made to assul present action of their secretary, in rectipting for the safe transportation of freight over other rai than their own, and guaranteeing the delivery of the same in specified time at points in Michigan, Ohio, Ilinois, &c.? ‘This is no doubt the firat time that any railroad company has undertaken to ba- come sponsor for the management, to such aa extent, of other roads. The sales for that week, up to the arrival of the St. Louis on the following Wednesday, were 12,000 bales, which includes shipments of speculation cotton in de- fault of sales here at maturity of contract. Ordinarily, the advices brought by the St. Louis to Sth inst, of an advance of 344., would have steadied our market, but the idea of heavier receipts disturbed sellers; and as buyers forspeculation did not come forward, and an opinion prevailed that the Asia would not coafirm the quotaticns, which later in the day proved correct, the market set in for a gradual decline. The letters by the Asia were received on Friday morning, but did not exer- cise apy influence on prices, as our market continued to olled by local causes, The sales and shipments since were ‘confined to speculation cotton, and have ave- reged about 1,500 bales daily.
