Last fall, two or three meetings of the stock iold- ers of the Ncw Haven Railroad Company were held in this city, for the purpose of taking into consider- ation the disposal of the over-issued stock. After several aceres of considerable violense, an adjourn- ment was made to New Haven, where, in Novem- ber, a meeting was held. For aome time p:evious tothe day fixed for the meeting, a clique of old steckholders, at the head of woich was an init vidual pemed Samuel D. Bradford, of Boston—a retired capitalist, a trustee in the Harvard Univer- sity, and who voted against the elec'ion of Com. missiover Loring to the law professorship of that institution on account of hia having randero] a | decision in favor of the Fugitive Slave lawia tie case of Burns—met almost daily at the office of | Jobn EF. Thayer & Brother, baukers, of Boston, and made up a jist of directors to take the placo of the | old, or Schuyler board, At these frequent sittings it was determined by this clique to oustthe old Management and put in such mon as they coud control, so as to commence action at onze against holders of the new stozsk. A‘ the adjourned mee’ | ng of stockholders the new directors were propoaad by Mr. Bradford, and the old board was requested to reaign. About seven thousand shares voted on the questions, when thsy were declared carried, end the meeting adjourned. Soon after the old directors resigned and the repudiating board came into power. We annex the names of the new board, with the amount of stock held by each:— Shares, Shares, Harrison Gray Dyar, W. L. Lyon. 35 President, .......... 140 N. A. Bacon 50 Moncreif Robinson 42 J. R. Asan investment under existing circum- stances, it is so mach dead capital. fhr2e million of dollars are now locked up, and, to holders of old stock, useless; while, by a fair compromiss--one that would wipe out all dishonorable pless.all the Hegrace of repudiation, one that would do mo:e to raise the sinking credit aud character of railroad compa- nies than ten times the amount of money involved in any other way—the entire capital would be:one active and productive, aud those desirous ot realizing could do #0. We venture to say that there is not @ holder of old stock in the New Haven Railroad Company who woald refose sixty per cent for every share he held. They | would all be glad to get that price, and look about | for something elae to put the proceeds in. The only way by which that figure oan be rea‘ized is throagh &@ compromise with the holders of new stock. Evary | princi; le of honor and honesty, every interest, pab- and private, points to such a policy,’and if the right connels prevail, thatand none other will bs pur sued.
