The stock market was depressed at the opening this morning. Erie and Harlem Railroad stocks were in active demand. The former s2ld at lower, end the la:ter at higher prices, than those current at the close on Saturday. They are at present the | moat active fancies on the list. The transactions are principally on time, pretty equally divided be- tween seller’s and buyer’s option. The other fancies are comparatively quiet, without much change in | prices. Virginia sixes continue to be offered froely, and speculative transactions are made to some ex- tent. Railroad bonds have not been so active with- in the past day or two. Prices are not ao firm. The | supply of this class of securities appears to be un- limited. A great effort has lately been made to inflate their market value, aud the daily transations for a time were quite large; but the brokers had most ot this business among themselves, and failed | to attract much outside aid. The stock market, on the whole, has about reached its maximum point. Quotations must either fall off, or the operations become very much reduced. Stagnation or depre- ciation must soon take place. After the adjournment of the board, the following | eales of bonds avd stozks were made at auction by A. H. Nicolay: — $12,000 Hudson River Railroad, 34 mort..int. 5,000.N Y. and Harlem R.
