Mr. St. John, of the Seventeeth ward, moved to lay the motion for the previous question on the table. ‘The ayes and noes being taken on this motion, nine}! members voted in favor of it, and nineteen against it, and it was declared lost. ‘The ayes and noes being ordered on the previous ques- tion, while the vote was being taken, Mr. St. John rose) to debate the motion.
