Somers throvghout the world, i por Y¥Y SARKBT. ‘Wepxmspary, Oct. 25—6 P. M. ‘The buoyancy noticed in the stock market yesterday was of short duration. This morning the market opened very much depressed, and the improvement was not only lost but prices now rule lowerthan befors the re cont inflation. The decline to-day was general. ll of the leading fancies were unfavorably affected by some ‘mysterious izfluence. At the frst board, Delaware and Hudson fell off 34 per cent; Nicaragua Transit, 4; Cum- Deriand Coal, 34; Erie Railroad, 1; New York Central Railroad %{; Farlem, ; Reading Railroad, %; Ecle In- come bonds advanced 3; per cent, being the only securi ty on the Hat that shows any improvement. The amout of sales was not large of any stock, ani there were very few cash transactions. In view of the encouraging change in the exchange market, and a partial cessation of epecie shipmente, we looked for a moze favorable com pexion to the stock market. The immediate stringency inthe money market appears to be too severe to permit apy nflation in fancy stocks or anythinz else contested with financial affairs. The prospective ease and aban- dance of money has noeffect of a satisfactory char- agter just now. The brokers depend so much upon outside purchasers, that whatever restricts the operations of that class is fe't, sooner or later, in Wall street, among the fancies. The commercial classes are at this moment very much embarrassed in their fitances, and have just as much as they can stagger along under. Some of them have had more than they could carry, ad gave way under the burden, The mer chante are, as a clase, heavy speculators in fancy stocks, and they are a great support at all times to the market. Being generally buyerd, they relieve the street of many heavy weights, and help the regalar bull speculator to carry out bis cornering combinations, without being a direct participator. We cannot expect any permanent improvement in prices until mone; is essy and abuo- dant outside of Wall street. We look for this before the lapse of many months. Everything connected with trade and commerce is contracting. Every one is drawiog in their resources and reducing their business to the amall- est limit. Liquidation is the order of the day, and ulti- mately there must be ® large amount of accumulated idle capital seehing employment, and the probability is thata portion of it will find ite way into wme of the most prominent fancy stocks of the day. No one can complain of the prices now current, or of the extent o the margin for improvement. At the second board there was a more depressed feel- ing in the market, and lower prices ruled. Cumberland fell off 3¢ per cent; Reading Kailroad, 3¢; Cleveland and Toledo, 1. There were large sales of Gold Hill at2 per cent. The steamship Europs from Boston for Liverpool to- day, carried out $226,°60 in specie Mr. A. H. Nicolay’s regular semi-weekly auction sale ofstocks and bonds will take piace to-morrow (Thurs- day,) at 123¢ o’stock, at the Merchants’ Exchange. The steamship Niagara, at Halifax from Liverpool, brings three days later news than the steamship Wash- ington at this port. The telegraphic advices are not im. portant, and sre only interestiug in & political point of view. They are not of 2 faro-able character on the whole, and do not differ materially from those reseived Quotations’ for cotton and bread: jame as before reported, and the amount of business transacted in the markets was but limited. Consola were without alteration. Money was exceedingly tight. Nothing of consequence doing in Ame- rican securities.
