M. ‘There was a pretty general improvement io the stock market to-day, but no particular cause can be given for ‘the advance in prices. At the first board Nicaragua Transit went up *¢ per cent; Pennsylvania Coal, '{; Mc. Cullogh Gold Company, 14; Cumberland Coal Com- peny, X; Michigan Southern Railroad, 3; Cleng land and Toledo, 1; Hudson River Railroad, 34. North- ern Indiana fell off 3¢ per cent; Michigan Central Rail. road 4; Reading Railroad 14. The market appears to be in a very unsettled state, and the fluctuations are er- tirely without cause or Jong enough to bring out much stock, and a decline is too | short lived to give the sharpest and quickest an oppe § tunity to buy. Prices are just as likely to be up any @ay a down, and no nan can speculate understandingly for a rise or fall. At the second board the market was thronghout more Duoyant, and better prices were realized. Nicaragua Transit went up 34 per cent, Pennsylvania Coal \, Cum- berland Coul 34, New York Centers!
