The foHowing is her time, and her running time, from port to port, copied from the logbook, and furnished by Mr. W. kee, Brat officer:— Left New York 11th of March, at 4 P. M. Police ; A CHARGE OF EXTORTING MONEY—A CURIOUS AP- FaIR—A HUSBAND SURPRISING HIS WIFE. Before Justice Welsh. Avery curious affair was brought before Justice Welsh yesterday, involving the moral reputation of Mrs. Eliza- beth Jane Rokter, of No. 827 Twelfth atrect, and one Bernard Pinner, proprietor of a clothing store, at No. 176 Bowery—the two having been caught by the lady’s hus- band in w very peculiar position, and under circum- stances which, in his opinion, demanded immediate re- paration. In order, however, to make the case under- stood, we must give a brief history of the affair prior to the husband’s discovery of the grand developements:— In the first place, Mrs. Roleter is of Irish birth. about twenty-four years of age, and may be considered a very good looking young woman. Her husband, George Role- ter, is a German, and a machinist by trade, and she, to aid in their support, employed herself at making up clothing for various shops, and among them was that of Mr. Pinner, in the Bowéry. The last job of work she took from him was a lot of jackets, but not being able to finish them according to appointment, she seat him word ‘to that effect by a er requesting him to send her the amount of money due her for work done. Mr. Pianer wrote a letter to her in reply, of which the following is a copy, enclosing one dollar and a half :— New Yorx, May 17, 1854 Tvond you the money you possible, although 8 gentioman, still by my Co ete Tremaln yer B. PINNER. N. B.—Destroy these few lines. A day or two Sifter the receipt of this letter, Mra. Roleter tayo ahe called at Mr. Plnner’s store, when he complimented her good looks, and intimated improper Shiney tees mae eeakea tiene iiag eel Janeane towards ber, and he only laughed. Thus mattera passed along until last Tuesday afternoon, when she again visited his atore and informed him that she could not finish the jackets, and that he must send for them, which be promised to do. On the day previous Mca, Roleter says her husband left the clty for Philadelpnia, and was then absent, which fact was known by Mr. Pinner; and, on Tuesday night, between nine ani ten o'clock, 4 knock came at her door, and in walked Mr. Pinner? ee took Bee, - at the aoe en sewing @ pair of pantaloons for her ay Pinner had not been in the room but few seconds before he sprang from the chair and seized hold of her around the neck and kiased her. She repulsed him, saying that such liberties could not be permitted. However, he insisted, and said he in- tended to do more than that, and immediately took the candle and looked into the bedroom, to see if any person was about the rooms. He then locked the doors, and began to make himself very free, and to take improper liberties. She says thi this time wadea- ‘yored to repulse He finally pushed her forcibly into the bedroom, locked the door, undressed himself, and tried to make her do the same. She re- fused, and he tore off her dress. Thoy remained fighting together for some time, until near twelve o’clock, when who should come to the door but her husbané and her brother, Lewis Murray; the two having, as is alleged, just returned from Philadelphia. As the door of the set- ting-room was locked, they could not enter; but the brother having a key of one of the rear rooms on the same floor, Which led into the bedroom, they both en- tered that way; and there Roleter found his wife, partly undressed, and Pinner completely so. An explosion now teok place, more easily imagined than described. Tho husband ew into a desperate rage, kicked his wife out of the ‘room, and pitched into Pinner rather severely, blacking hia eye and. bruising his face, The unhappy Pinner wished to dress himself, but the husband-refused to let him do so, declaring that he would send for the police, and let them look at him; that he would have divorce from his wife, and have the whole affair brought into a court of justice. Mr. Pinner begged hard to be allowed to go; but his request was refused, and, to keep him fast, the hus- band and the brother bound him, hand and feet, with a cord, and sat him on the side of the bed sans culottes. Here he sat shivering with fright, supplicating. his an- tegonists to enter into compromise. The wife, when turned from the houge, hurried off to her other brother, Jerome Murray, and told him what her husbani had done. He then came to the scene of trouble, and be- came one of the Laer} fed negotiate in a settlement. In this manner mas were made on both sides; and it was not until 12 o’clock the following day that an arrangement and compromise took place, and the sum of $200 was to be paid by Pinner—and he was then to be liberated from custody. To meet this demand Mr. Pinner gave the following ies Xe. 16 amany OnK, Mas To the President and officors of the Island City Bunk, in eS eee Roce ease az, teen Scere: ro e ‘e PINAER. At one o’clock another compromise was entered into. 7 r gave up bis gold watch and chain, a diamond breast , and $20 in money, valued in all at $145. For many years past in this latitude there has not fallen, in the same length of time, so much rain as within the last three months. It might well be termed & rainy season, for it has been almost one constant shower, storm and drizzle since the opening of March. Our farmers seriously feel its evil consequences in the delay of their spring work; for in this region particu: larly it ie regarded as yet too wet to plant many of the crops that sluld be ia the groand and sprouting at this time of the year. The earth is cold and soppy, and seed rote in it, or, if taking root, it thrives not well.
