TREMENDOUS CONFLAGBATION. ‘Last night, about 11 o'clock, & fire broke out in thé Sou: mill situated at the northwest corner of Twenty- ninth street and Eleventh avenue, belonging to E. B. Phelp’. Great consternation was caused, mot only in the viciaity, bat for miles around, from the red, lurid appear- ‘ance that was presented. The brightness of the fames being refiectef more than usual, from the extraordinary clearness of the atmosphere, cast a red threatening ligh; in all Girectionz, so that the whole of the heavens ap peared to be in a blaze. To such a distance did this illu- sion extend, that tos person standing in Broadway, it appeared as if the fire must be close beside him in the rear of some ef the houses, and not some miles up town. The only elue to the locality of the fire was from the alarm for the Second district. Far iv the resr of where once stood the flour mill, there was as planing mill belonging to a person of tbe name of Crane, which was in the ut- most danger, particularly as it consisted entirely of wood. So closely adjoining was this latter that by mapy of the standers by it was supposed to be alight; this mistake was caused from the circumstance ‘that the entrance to C-anv’s placing mill was likewise on the Eleventh avenue beside the flour mill, and to the north of it further up town. In consequence, the flames from the flour mull casc their retiec'ion upon the board ‘over the entrance to the planing mill giving the wrong idea, that the latte: was on fire The fire is said tohave Originated in the engine room, aud we were informed that the engine was at work at the time. We did not hear whetber the owner. was insured or not, but one ‘thing is certain that the whole building is destroye?. The fire was still burning as mentioned before at mid- night, but with the exception of the planing mill and a few woocen houseg, there were no other buildings ad- joining. Thee, however, at the time our reporter left, were in danger. Fink —On Thursday afternoon the stable and houses of the Hon. John M. Bradh , situated at Car- manville, together with about forty tons of hay and ten tons of coal, were destroyed by fire. The carriages ‘and harness were saved. He was partially iosured. The fire and police departments were early on the groand. The cause of the fireis unknown. * ACCIDENT aT THE HirropRoME.— Yesterday evening, just before the performances commenced at the Hippodrome, the drapery of one of the dancing girls caught fire, a: but for the presence of mind of a gentleman in the boxes, who tore his coat from his persons and enveloped completely the burning child, might have resulted fatally. Execution Parapgs —The Highwood Guard of Hoboken have been ordered to do general — the occasion of the execution of William Keating on Bergen Hill on Tues- day next. Antenrt at Bunctany.—Early yesterday morning, tro officers belopging to the Twentieth police district, found the dvor of # clothing store in Sixth avenue, near Thirty- fifth street, open. Dears By Drows1xG.—Corcver 0’Doncell yoeterday held an inquest at the foor of Rouseyeit street, on the body of a boy named Daniel Donovan. aged six years, who Was playing on the dock, at ths foot of Roosevelt street, with some other boys and ix supposed to have sccidentally fel- lvm into the river and was drowzed, before assistance could be rendered.
