By being compelled to make barges warehouses, and give new bends, they suf- fered much delay and inconvenience, as the barges, which ‘were often detained two days, subjected shippers to de maurrege. Canadian flour did not enter into competition with the domestic article; the bakers never used it; hence, on allowing its speedy export on arrival, no injury could result to American flour, or to the treasury. The practice which had hitherto prevailed was to let the flour go on board ship as soon as it came to hand, under bond ‘from the Canada frontier, and when exported the boada ‘were cancelled. Anxious to give a clear statement of facts, we withhold further allusion to the subject until additional information, promised to be communicated,. eould be procured in a tangible, clear and reliable form. ‘The reported beginning of » revolution in Venezuela ereated no surprise. A large portion of the inhabitants had looked upon President Monagas as an usurper. The ‘violent conduct of his brother while President, displayed some years since, would be remembered. He was charged with having entered Congress with troops, dispersed its members, causing the death of many, subverted the con- stitution, and made himeif supreme dictator after hay- ing caused the overthrow and exile of Gezeral Paez. The latter had received a public reception and the sympathies of the people on landing in New Yerk, ‘The frequent revolutions and want of stability in many South American republics had greatly retarded their progress in the arts of modern civilization. Should Mon- agas be pressed to the wall, his case might demand an- other protectorate pledge in his favor from Spain. Santa Anna bad resided, during his exile, at his court in Car- ‘thagena. M. ‘The Progress of the Revolution Against the Monaga’s Government. WAs the steamer will sail for Puerto Cabello to-morrow, and be in time with letters for the Venez Tagain write by this vessel to give you some news which have just been received here extra officially, but which I may- venture to give as true. The following places have made a pronunciamento in favor of the opposition and against the government, but as yet I do not know who js proclaimed chief:—Oritu- eo, Chaguaramas, Ortiz, Parapara, San Juan de los Mor- ros, Villa de Cura, and it is said that Valencia and La Vic- toria will follow to-morrow, if they have not already, The pronunciamentos of Cumana, Margarita and Rio Chieo, are expected to arrive to-night. Abando (proclamation) was published this morning, calling out the militia, At twelve o'clock, to-day, about 100 persons presented themselves at the Jefe Politicos, snd were enrolled, but before four o'clock P. M., seventy had deserted, and the remaining thirty which have just left for Caracas will, it is said, desert on the road. The opposition party count upon 200 men in Mayquetia, and almost all Laguayra are opposed to the government. The day before yesterday an order was sent to Petare to put all the militia under arms and send them into Cara- cas, and but ten persons have been enrolled. 10 O0°Otocx, P.M. By an arrival from Caracas, it is said that General Za- mora is advancing on Caracas, and that to-morrow a blow will be struck there. It would appear that a large majority of the opposition are resolved on proclaiming General Paez. To-morrow, no doubt, will bring forth great events. A great many persons are hiding in Caracas, among the number Senor Oligario Meneses, whose house was search- ed last night by a Monagas marauding party. 1 will leave this letter open until to-morrow, and if there should be time I will add any further news to it. The government is almost abandoned. The barrios (districts) of San Juan, Candelaria, and Pastors, will, it is affirmed, act to-morrow. Captain Juan Llamoras, an intrepid leader, they say, is advancing on Caracas, from Ortiz, with 600 men. General Castelli is full y compromised and pledged to the cause of the opposition. The General in Chief, Santiago Marino, heads the pronunciamento in La Victoria. General Justo Brieeno is in Puerto Cabello. Tuvrapay, May 26—8 A. M. Senor Obregon, a tool of the Monagas administration has just arrived here, There isa party here prepared to seeure him, as the popular feeling is very much against him. B.L.
