MONEY MARKET. Monpar, May 2-6. M. ‘There wasa pretty active market to-day, at the first board, but stecks were forced out by the bears, whe ex hibited considerable eagerness to sell chort, or for cash, to suit purchasers. The coal stocks particularly, were freely offered, and the transactions were unusually large. The sales wore principally on time. We see no indications pf ® favorable change in the stock market. So long as outsiders evince no disposition to enter into speculation, so long must we make the best of times such as these, It is utterly out of the question to get up any excitement in the fancies, until outsiders are disposed to take hold, and relieve those who are now burdened with such an ac- cumulation of stocks. The fact is, the fancies are Princi- pally beld in Wall street, und the movement is entirely among the brokers. The few outsiders operating are bears, and generally short to some extent. The only buoyant stock im the list is Nioaragua, and that improves very gra- dually, Krie Reiltoad bangs fire at about ninety per cent. The tendeacy is downward, with pretty large sales. Morris Canal appears to have lost its buoyancy, but buyers are sanguine, and take hold with a great deal of spirit. At the first board to day, Morris Canal fell of 34 per cent, Yhoenix Coal Company 3{, Montgomery Mining 3, Parker Vein 144, Norwich and Worcester 3, Buffalo and Roches- ter 3, Crystal Palace advanced 2 per cent, Nicaragua Transit 94. There was» pretty fair amount of business transacted in rad#road bonds, at a slight depreciation in market value. City bank stocks wre daily sold in small lots, at full prices. The market, on the whole, looks gloomy for holders of stocks generally. The receipts at the office of the Assistant Treasurer of this port to-day, amounted to $38,070,000 ; payments, 53,206 67—balance, $6,004,570 38. The receipts at the office of the Assistant Treasurer 0 Vhiladelphia, during the month of April, 1853, amounted to $1,186,176 54, of which $248,022 was from customs, 122,564 16 from drafts, $64,952 69 from Post Office. The propert, of the diffrent companies situated upon “ Jenping's Run,” which have a connection with the Mount Savage Railroad, will, doubtless, be ultimately successful. They are near to Cumberland comparatively, and if the capacity of the Baltimore and Ohio Rails would admit ot it, they might posalbly be able to do busine with some hepe of profit; but the Baltimore and Ohio road, from the occurrence of delays which are incident to all enterprises of that character, is unable to fulfil its present engagements with the Cumberland Coal and Iron Company, who have a special contract with it. These four institutions have each a regular banking house, and pursue the business of banking within the true intent and meaning of the law, and afford facili- Ues to the communities in whieh they are located. Of the other seventeen, the Commissioners state that only three have partially complied with the law, by hav- ing an office, «clerk, aad by ‘waking occasionally a dia: count—but beyond that, no regular banking business is done by either. Fifteen of thom have given notice of their intention to close their affairs, and the Commis- sioners caunct “refrain from expressing their opinion that the confidenge of the Legislature in the system has been abused.’’ The securities deposited by all the associations amounted, in December last, to $735,420, and circulation outstanding $506,742. ‘The returns of the Bank of France for the month ending April 14, 1863, give the annexed exhibit of the different departments on that day — Bask ov Praxce, Arm, 135%, Capital of the Bank., Reserve of the Bank, mm Reserve of the Bank in landed property.
