Sergeant Stanton was highly esteemed by all the officers of the regiment, ‘avd itis no small consolation to his friends to find them ‘mew bearing testimony to the honorable fact that amid ‘@i the trials, turmoil, and temptations of the Mexican war, the deceased was never found wanting at hia post, ‘ever shrunk from a duty, however arduous, and never ‘effended against the rules of strict discipline under which ‘he served. DEATH OF LIEUTENANT CHARLES B. BROWER. In connection with the funeral of a worthy non-com- igsioned officer, the painful duty is imposed upon us of again adverting to the death of a distinguished officer, who held a commission in the same gallant corps. We altude to the decease of Lieutenant C. B. Brower, who ex- pired at iis residence, in Flatbush, last Saturday, as no- tieed in our paper of yesterday morning As a gallant woldler, experienced ihe, ant woncengllaliall genrllarosa, Teutenant Brower was esteemed by every member of the chivalrous band to which he was attached. He served through the Mexican campaign, with the New York Vo- Funteers. The deceased Lieutenant was mustered into the service of the United States dnring the month of December, 146. He joined at Fort Hamilton, the same month, under Gen. Bankhead. {nu the early part of Jan., 1847, he sailed from home, and having landed at Vera Craz he was immediately put upon active service with thearmy under the command of General Scott. Mr. Brower served through the campaign—from the taking of Vera Cruz to the conquest of the City of Mexico—and was engaged, either with his regiment or on detached special duty, upen the occasion of every battle which took place. His gallantry was conspicuous upon every oeeasion, but more Particularly so at the storming of Chapultepec, where, amid the heat of battle, he took the brave Mexican Gen. Braval, prisoner. The deceased had the high honor of dehyering this officer to Gen. Cadwallader, of our army, with his own hand. For this exploit Lieutenant Brower received the thanks of the Generals in command, and promotion, At the termination of the war a well earned eommission was given to him in the Third Regiment of Infantry of the United Siates Army, to which corps he was attached up to the time of his lamented death.
