MONEY MARKET. Faipar, Dro. 8=6 P. M. ‘There was a large business transacted a: the stock ex- ehange this morning, but prices were not so buoyant, and at the close the market was rather heavy. At the second board, Canton Company and the Parker Coal Company were the most buoyant stocks om thelist. The sales at the afternoon board ‘ _ nexed:— f ‘were not. large, and there was mot such an active dispo- pition to buy as we have observed during the past day or two. There was more inquiry for money to-dsy, and rates have been slightly advaneed. Itis about time for ‘the Comptrolicr tomake another call for returns from “the banks of this State, and several of the city institu. tions are putting their affairs in order. In September, ‘the Comptroller called for reports, to be made up to a dey “pbout three weeks back, instead of shead,as had been the rule, and the banks fear they may be caught so again. The money market may bea little stringent until the fficial call is made. ty ‘The receipts at the office of the Aseistant Treasurer of this port to. day amounted to $380,008 50; paymenis $501,- 966 95—balance $5,202,688 18. ‘The earnings of the Hudson River Railroad Company, during the month of November, amounted to $88 698 85. The receipts of the Erie Railroad Company for the month of November amounted to $348.162 17, against $290,420 40 for the same month in 1861—showing an in Grease of $48,741 77. ‘We have no change {to report in foreign exchanges ‘The demand thus far bas been only moderate for remit- tance by the steamship Hermann, We quote bills on London at 10 a 1034 per cent premium; on Paris 5f.13% | @ &f. 1234 ; Amsterdam 41% @ 4144 ; Bremen 79% @ 80 ; Hamburg 36% 0 36%. ‘The Citizens Insurance Company has declared » semi- “annual dividend of eight per cent. At a meeting the direction of the Phoenix Coal Com- pany, William 8. Wetmore, Eeq., presiding, Francis Rider was unanimously elected President, on the resig- mation of T. Waters. This change has been for somo- time loeked for, with the hove that, ina change of officers, the company would adopt a much more vigorous system of policy; and, in doing s0, it is fairly anticipated that a full developement will be be made of the immense riches et the company. Mr. Rider proceeds to Western- port immediately, with the unlimited authority of the @hectors, having their entire confidence, for the purpose ~ef making arrangements for opening the company’s large mine of fourteen feet of very rich and superior coal If the Phoonix had heretofore pursued this energetic course, their stock instead of being the lowest. would now range among the highest. A company, with 22000 acres of valuable mineral land, located on both sides of the Po- tomac river, and with but a nominal findebtedness, pre- sents am anomaly of extracrdinary occurrence Their de- ‘velopements, however, being now in progress. as we be- Meve, they will have, co we wish them, a rich harvest of @uccess. A better and greater supply of Camberland coal is much desired, especially such as will be found free ote Virwoes and Canada Railroad company have de- elared a dividend of four per cent. ‘The State Treasurer of Alabama has published his re- port for the fiscal year ending the Ist instant. Yet prices of all productions, especially woollens and do- mestic cottons, remain very firm and display a rising te- nor. Stocks are not excessive, and are not pressed upon the market. Imports are still rather moderate, but will shortly augment. Very few of the goods recently received have been exhibited for sale thus far, holders preferring to await the revival of activity in the trade, to the supplying of orders for ceasonable fabrics at the rates current the last three months. They prefer to act thus—because they are im hopes that the appreciation of raw materials and the increasing scarcity and remuneration of labor in Eu- rope, will then enable them to procure higher prices. Several buyers from impcrlers entertain similar views and evince an eagerness to secure stccks of staple and fash- fonable articles before the spring trade is thoroughly eom- meneed. There is @ tolerably fair enquiry for brown sheetings and shirtings at slightly improved quotations, ‘They are in limited stoex. A comparative scarcity of bleached sheetings and shirtings exists. Jeans have been actively sought after st full prices. But for the anxiety of owners to dispose of their stocks. an improve. ment in value would doubtless occur, A fair inquiry prevails for osnaburgs at advancing rates. Printing cloths are in poor supply and brisk demand at the recont rise. The fall stocks of prints are being rapidly eleared out at remunerative figures. Some spring styles have appeared. and are held at an advance, which it is gene rally supposed, will be established as soon as the require.
