Hahn, scalded inwardly and arm injured; and five or six more that have broken limbs, or are scalded more or less. And Ee gc are from six to ten or twelve that are missing, who are probably among the ruins of the wreck, or in the water, which cannot be told until to morrow, when the wreck is cleared out. The boilers were completely blown to pieces. The Fargest piece (about one-half) was thrown more than fifty yards over the boat, down the canal, (the boat was going up,) nother piece upon the guard lock, and other pieces wore or jess in size strewn in every direotion—one large piece alighting near the top of | the hill some three or wreck—and some of the bricks of the flue were found in the lot on the top of the highest hill above town. The people have shown all the sympathy that such @ scene is caivulated to ry out, in taking care of the dead and wounded, and doing all that bu- ity could prompt in relieving the distresses of their fellow-men The explosion war undoubtedly occasioned by the carelesmess of the engineer in letting the ree eet too low, and the moment the engine was stopped t let the boat pass the guard lock it exploded with such a shock as to shake the bouses all over town A telegraphic despatch received hag the follow- ing:— Ko ladies wore injured. The killed, as far as known, are—Jobn Barbour, of Pittsburg, produce dealer; James Daniels, of Harmar, engiaeor; John West, of Coalrun; 8 Butler, colored; Edward Atherton, ef Bevor!y; William Stull, and ten others The injured are Captain Habn, arm broken, and badly scalded; Mr. Whissyn, first clerk, one leg broken, and both foct and ankies smashed, ‘probably will die; Calvin S Senator ©. €. Covey has his leg broken; Edward Blackmar, and many others, names not known The boat is torn all to pieces. Every flue collapecd in one boiler; the other boiler cannot be found. The accident is attributed to the groes recklessness of the engineers, one of whom was on tho safety valve at the time of the explosion. The carpenter says he told the engineer, not five minutes before the explosion, that there was too much steam on. Mr. Whirson. the clerk of the Buckeye Belle, has died of the injuries received by the explosion. The editor of the Zanesville Courier bas conversed with several persons who were on the faial boat, and thus reports the sensa- tions cf two of them at the first moment they were con- scious of the accident:—One gentl+man was sitting read- fog about midway in the geotieman’s cabin, and the next knowledge he had of bimeeif. he was lyimg in the ladies’ cabin. He the ledies off the wreck, but was scarcely con- peor of what be was doing. and insensible to the effect of some soalds and severe bruises until after the excitement was over. Another gentivman, who was asleep in a berth immeciately over the boilers. says that he had sensations similar to What a person wight imagine he would have by falling over a roaring cataract of several hundred fest, and although but a moment or two in“ mid air,” the in- cidents of # life pacced through his mind.
