Police Intelligence. Important Arvest of House Burglars, and Recovery of the StolenProper ty —Officers Burley and Stephens, of the lower Police Court, yesterday arrested two desperate burglars, named James McQuade and Joha Leary, on a charge of burglariourly breaking into the dwelling house of Mr. Kdward Sandiord, situated at No, 44 Union Place, steal- ing therfrom valuable wearing apparel and silver plate. valved in ali at over $1,000; a porvion of which proper'y has been recovered through the vigilurce of the above named officers. It erems that about three or four weeks ‘ago, during the absence of the fumily in the country, the robbers effreied an entrance. by forcing open the base- mevt door—the house was them ransacked from top to bottcm, and the prope:ty sbove alluded to, carried away. On tho return of Mra, Saudford from the country, Uhe robbery was discovered, and Mrs 8. found that the robters had carried off all her silk dresses, cloaks, splendid shawls, &c. together with the silver ware, On the developement of the robbery, officers Burley and Stephens set themselves to work. in order to find out the rogues. About a week ago they first got clue of the burglars. and it was eubsequently ascertained that several of Mrs. Sandford's dreeses and cloaks had been offered for role in Church street The officers then, with much commendable perseverance. pursued up the thieves until they captured them. In the possession of M Quade some valusble articles of wernt, apparel were found, also some of the silver ware, which has been identified by the owner. Several of the silk clouks and shawis were reco- yered from a house in Church street. where thoy had been sold by the prisoner MQuade The prisoners were conveyed before the magistrate at the Tombs. who com mitted them to prison for trial. During the summer months a number of the dwelling houses up town, left unguarded by the absence of the family in the country, have buen burglariously entered and ransacked by the thieves. in the seme manner they did Mr, Sundford’s premises. €he burglars new under arrest are. no. doubt, the same rob- bers who effected the majority, if not ll of the burgla. ries of that de:eription during the summer months. Some few articles of silver ware have been fouad ia the po-resion, not idemtificd by Mrs, Sandford, which are be- lieved to be the proceeds of other burglaries.
