There were sales of Ulster and St, Lawrence. Mining stocks, at yesterday's prices, Pennsylvania Coal Company sold at an advance of 44 per cent on last sale. New Jersey Zinc was in active demand, to-day, without change in prices. ‘The receipts at the office of the Assistant Treasurer of this port, to-day. amounted to $400,130 22; payments, $66 704 70—Dalance, $5,453,745 12. The steamship Hermann, for Southampton and Bre- men, carried out $32,700 in specie. The demand for ex- change for remittance by this steamer was only mode- rate, at quotations previously current. The Paterson and Ramapo Railroad Company have de- clared a semiannual dividend of three percent. The Watertown and Rome Railroad, five per cent. The news from California by the steamships Daniel Webster and Illinois is more interesting than important. The mining accounts continue favorable, and the ship- ments of gold dust toabout the usual extent. Thesteain- ship Northerner, which left San Francisco on the 16th of July, brought down $1,759,971 78, in gold on freight. The Diinois brought most of this gold dust to this port, It is estimated that the passengers in the Illinois have $300,000 im their luggage. This makes the aggrega‘e nearly two millions of dollars. During the week ending on the 7th instant, 4,700 tons of coal were transported over the Mount Savage Comp. ny’s Railroad to Cumberland. During the week ending on the 11th instant, 1 942 tons of coal and 41 tons of e left Cumberland by the canal. The recent rains ha placed the Ohio and Chesapeake Canal in fine navigable order throughcut its entire length. ‘The anthracite coal trade has fallen off a little the past week, in consequence of a breach for a few days in the Delaware division of the Pennsylvania canal, interrupt- ing the free paseage of the Lehigh navigation boats, The tonnage of the Lehigh. for the week, was only 24,968 tons ; by the Schuylkill navigation. 22,540 tons, and by the Reading railroad, 44 821 tons—making, by the three lines, 91,829 tons, The tonnage by the three lines, for the sea- ‘son, is 2.050.850 tons, The trade continues active, and prices are wellrustained.
