SPECIAL CORRESPONDENCE OF THE NEW YORK HERALD. Wasincton, August 7—84 P. M. The announcement that the fishery difficulties are rettled, is premature, Mr, Crampton, the British Minis+ ter, had an interview with the President to-day. I have the best reason for believing that, so far from the matter being settled, the gravest fears are felt, It is ascortained that the British government never contemplated enfore- ing the disputed point of the ireaty as to the headlands, but the colonial authorities have always contended for this interpretation, and and have passed laws to that effect. Five of the armed cruisers fitting out by the colonists are instructed to ceize all American fishing ves- sels violating that interpretation of the treaty. They even go further, and declare that any fishlitg vossels found within the three miles are lawful p: Admiral Sey- mour, it appears, is as desirous of préventing the execu- tion of this forced construction #is*Commodore Perry can beybut the danger is, that notwithstanding his watchful- ness, some such seizure may take place. Besides, there are at least twenty thousand American fishermen interested in this fishing trade, and authentic information has reached here that they are daily becoming more and more ex- cited, ‘The warlike demonstrations in the Senate wilf not have the effect of calming this feeling. The greatest anxiety is, therefore, telt for the speedy adjustment of the diff. culty. If American blood should be spilled, jwar would be inevitable. The negotiations which ai P doubtless, rendered more complicated Jy the fact that the President docs not feel warranted if making any con- cessions to England, for the opening of the fisheries, un- less the matter is first submitted to Congress; and the feeling of Congress is not, at present, the most amicable. ‘The omission by the President, in the correspondence sent to the Senate, of Mr Webster's proclamation, was a pointed rebuke to that gont|gman for his course. There is, of course, no danger of a collision between Commodore Perry and Admiral Seymour. X.Y. Z. ing are, RUMOALD DESTRUCTION OF AN AMERICAN FISHING VESSEL BY A BRITISH CRUISER.
