CHRONOM 4 South Castle “ADDITIONAL FROM S0UTH AMERICA. The Effect in Buenos Ayres of the Defeat of Rosas—The Sudden Revolution in Pub- le Sentiment—Attempted Sack of the City—Three Hundred Buenos Ayrean Sol- dicrs Shot—Organization of the New Go- vernment—The Carnival at Rio de Ja- nelro—Interesting Particulars of Para- guay, d&eo., dic. Our thanks are duo to a gentleman of this city, for tho use of file of the Jornal de Commercio, published at Rio de Janeiro, to the 3dult. It contains, as we stated on Saturday, thirteen days lator advices from Buenos Ayres, and fourteen days later from Montevideo, After an attempted sack of the elty of Buenos Ayres, and the consequent execution of three hundred of ‘oras’ soldiers, affairs settled down and became quite tranqull. A temporary government had been formed; the ci-derant partizans of Rosas had sont in their alle- giance to tho new order of things, and preparations wore making for the reception of the allied army, which was to enter Buenos Ayres on tho 18th of February. Now that tho great question involvins tho destinies of the Argontine republic has been solved, and that the old system that regulated it, in its home and foreign rela- tions, is to be sucoeeded by a new one—whioh bids fair to break down the iron barrier that opposed the extension of itscommerceand of its intercourse with tho rest of the world—all the statistics relative to the rich state or pro- vince watered by three or four of the great rivers of South America, will be read with futerest and curiosity. In this view we have translated from the Jornal de Commercio, of the 2th of February, a late and excellent description of Paraguay, which haa, for so long atime, been shut in from us, TRUGUAY. ‘Tho war steamer Golfinho arrived at Rio Janciro on the 27th of February, with the squadron of the twelfth bat- talion of chasseurs, ‘The dates from Montevideo are to the 19th of February. Signor Berro, President of tho Senate, took pesseasion of tho Presidency of the ropublio on the 17th. BUENOS AYRES. The advices from Buenos Ayros are to tho 10th of February. On the 12th, the provisional government sent a circular to all the Governors of the interior provinces, to announce the defeat and flight of General Rosas. On tho same day, new Argentine Ministry was organized in the following manner Minister of Interior—Dr, Valentin Alsina, Minister of Forvign Atfairs—Don Luis de ia Pena. Minister of Finances—Don Jose B. Gorostiaga. Minister ot War and Navy—Don Manucl Escalada, Chief of Police—Don Manuel Joso Guerrico. A decree of the 11th of February declared as outlaws all the persons who, violating the convention of the 7th Octaber,J) “1, tovk uy arms sgaipat the allied army, and thore belonging to the cavalry who revolted on thei march on Buenos Ayres, and murdered their colonel, Don Pedro de Aquino. ‘The 18th was the day designated for tho entry of th allied army into Buenos Ayres, ‘The capital was engaged in making the greatest preparations to celebrate that me morable event, According to the information received, it appears tha: the two sons of Rosas, his niece, and nephews, will nccom- pany the ex-dictator, with General Kohague, his friend Majordomo Jeronimo Costa, and a certain Febre, o Santa Fo in his exile. It is reported that the Conflict Las revedcd orders to go to England, if the Teviot has left Parmambuco, {is suid that Roeas has lost all his former sagacity and bt. THE REPBBLIC OF PARAGUAY, [From the Jornal do Commereio, Feb. 20.] ‘The republic of Paraguay has an extent of territory covering at least 20.000 square leagues, [tis bounded by tho empire of Brazil. the Argentine republic and Bolivia, ‘Tho river, bearing tho same namo, rises in the provinces of Moto Grose and Santa Cruz’ de Serra, and it is navigablo from the point where it meets the river Parana, almost to its very source, an extent of 500 leagues. On either eide it is covered with forests, containing wood of the most valuable charaoter, while tho soil is rich abounding in excellent pasture. ‘There are also Taines Of caleareous stone nnd salt to be found. ‘The Aps river ig navigable more than 30 leagues from its conflu- ence with the Paraguay, It runs from east to west, aa do tho other rivers rising in tho interior of the republic, Ita margins are covered with rosewood morosimon (w kind of mahogany), and other woods held in high esteam, ‘The Aquidavanigui, separating tho cities of Conesiqae and Salvador, flows through rich pasture grounds, and sides the valuable species of wood above named, the tree whence the India rubber inextracted, is found in abun dance on ita banks, ‘The Ipaué divides the jurisdiction of the cities of fan Pedro and ConceicaoItempties into tho Paraguay.
