Cotton goes forward slowly, and the experts generally are made up of the usual variety of articles, It will be seen, upon reference to the above table, that our shipments to South and Oentral America, and to the West Indies, have been particularly large. This trade is becoming more important every day, and, ifit continues to increase at the rate tealized during the past two years, it will equal that now carried on with Eurcpean countries. The total value of merchandise ex. ported from this port Inst week, was about one million of dollars; specie exported in the same time, $733,936; total value of imports in same time, partly estimated, two mil- licus of dollars. According to this the importations ex- ceeded the exports several hundred thousand dollars. Recently there have been large shipments of cotton to Europe from Southern ports, and, at the present time, the foreign trade of the country may be slightly in our favor. It is, however, only by large weekly shipments of specie, that it has become so, or will continue s0. ‘One of the most gigantic and important railroad enter- prises now in contemplation, is the construction of the ‘IMino!s Central Railroad, from Chicago to Cairo, The Company for the construction of this road has been or- ganized, the capital stock subscribed, twenty per cent of whieh bas been paid in, all the conditions of the charter have been complied with, and all the deede, grants, trusts, ete.. executed. Engineersare now employed in surrey- ing and selecting a route, and the donated lands, which will amount to 3,840 acres for each milo of road, or in the aggregate—the main road and branches being assumed at six hundred and seventy milee—2,572,800 acres. It is propored to meet the cost of construction of this great ink in the chain of railroads, connecting the Mississippi with the Hudson river, by the issue of bonds, payable in 1875, bearing interest not exceeding seven per cent per ennum. The security for the principle will be :— Ist. The entire longth of road itself. 2d. The two million acres of donated lands. ‘The security for the payment of interest om the bonds will be -— Ant. The whole eapital stock of the company. 24 The entire net income of the road. 8d Two hundred and fifty thousant acres of land epecivily appropriated, The lands above referred to will be velued at prices that will largely exoeed, ia the aggre- gate, ony omcunt required for gomstruction, which will, ft is believed. be fully realized long before the matarity ofthe bords The rapid increase of population in Iii. noir, the superior quatity of the lands referred to, their favoruble location for cultivation, and the additional value given to these jands by the facilities for getting to market the completion of the road will ensure, all gua ranty the realizetion of results greater than the most sanguine dure anticipate. We have no douds that long before the maturity of the bonds, these donated lauds ‘will have returned to the treasury of the company more then the whole cost of the road. ‘These bouds may, at any time, be surrendered, and apy land on sale olaimed ia liew of them at the appraise. ment. None of the lands appropriated for their security ean be disposed of, except on the simultaneous surren- der, or poyment of bonds to an amount equal to thelr appraisal. That appraisal of the two millions of acres mortgeged for their security—that is, the price under which they will not be sold, and to which it is expected they will advance at some time previous to 1875—will be go arranged, as soon as they are selected and their cha- racter known, as to produce the following averages:— 400.060 acres ordinary agricultural lands, $6. $2,400,000 1,000,000 aoree good agricultural Innds, $10... 12,000,000 300,000 acren superior agricultural lands, $15 at) 60 200 106,000 acres town sites, mineral lands, ‘*30 3,600 060 $21,400,000 Te enable the company to meet the demand for these at ony time short of the period of the maturity of the bonds, the right to anticipate their payment has been reserved, but only on condition of giving one hun- dred and twenty dollars for every hundred 40 taken up. During the time cecupied in the construction of the road, the interest on the cutlay will be Included in its cost, Immediately on its completion, the income, after peyirs ourrent expenses and State tax, will be of course japplied to this object. If it should not, at first, be suf. it, the earnings from any partial use of the road ire ite entire completion, the whole oppital stock of ‘company, and the entire proceeds of sales of 250,000 of land set aside for this purpose, will form # fund will be asople under apy contingency, 12 do; tong Oseek, nee a ane soeuee BR. 12656 Fi Panama + 95, 75 Porsam. con 6 bo do | 300°" “do DAO 12h5 200 | 20 do “13032” 310 do | do 802 200 do | ‘BMariom prefeizei weg, BD a | 160 Nor & Wor RR... 60's Wish | ‘SECOND BOARD | 23000 Erie Cony Bas, ‘62. 2, 100 4he Morrie Canal. | XJ Zine Co iy WO BrIORR.... sas ave | ico aes un 2 go see eee | mS Bdeworth 5, |. sid Nok & Wor RR Sig GW Reattig RR it 300d. 20 “tam 69 pS a oe CIPY PHADEK REPORT.
