Hits general view was that the public lands were the pro- perty cf all the people of the United States, and all were equally entitied to their respective share in the some, The States in which the lands lic have no legal or equiteble claim to the pubilc lands, more than the other States. In conclusion, he returned his thanks to the few cenators present for their kind attertion. The bill was then postponed. THR BRAZILIAN COMMIESON Mr Mason, from the Committee on Foreign Relations, reported a joint resolution, extending the time for closing the commission under the convention with Brazil. Mr. Ona introduced a bill to facilitate the attendance of eounsel residing at a distance from Waebington, by claraifgying the docket of the United States Supreme Court. THE MISKOURI RAILROAD LAND MILL. ‘The House reeumed the consideration of the motion to refer to the Committee of the Whole on the State of the Union the bill granting the right of way, and ® portion of the public lands to Missouri, to aid in the construction of certain railroads therein. Mr. Mitten insisted on the justice of making the grant, and of meting cut to Missouri justice similar to other members of the confederacy. @ne of these roads commences at Hannibal, on tne Mirsiestppt river, 15 miles above Bt. Louis, and near Quincy, lilinoie; from this polot the roed bas been surveyed to St Jorepks, on the Missouri, 660 miles above 8t Louie; this would form one of the connecting links with the ‘great city of New York, The other road commences at St. Louis, the be- ginning point 130 miles south of the beginning point of the Hannibal road. The beginning point in in the Inti. tude of the important cities and towns, and in the lati- tudes of other roads which have been completed, or are in progress. It will also connect with Cincinmnatt. Al- ready # company bas been incorporated for the construc- tion of Uhis rowd, which will be finished, it is supposed, in five years. It will terminate at the western boundary of Missouri. There te now an available capital of four millions of dollars or two-thirds of the necessary amount for there roads, and Missouri asks for a portion of the thirty millions of acrea of the public lands in that Btate, to aid her in the construction of these great works.
