Qur whalemen have suffered many outrages, at various times, from the hands of the natives of those islands, when obliged to put in there for supplies. It is to be hoped the wholesome lesson given them by Com. Pearson will have the effeot of preventing the recurrence of outrages that bad already existed much longer than a proper regard for the rights of American citizens ought to have al- lowed :— Jonanwa, Aug. 8, 1851. On the 6th of August, the United States sloop of war Dale, Commander Pearson, arrived here, and immedi- ately demanded rediess of the King for the uvjast im prisonment of Captain Moore, of the bark Maria. of New Brdford, who was imprisoned here in August, 1860 Cap- tain Pewraon, after making all inquirtes of both the English squadron en this station, and the masters of Anericau ships in the harbor, and also of the Engi residents here, being convinced of the flagrant injustice done to Captain Moore, and others, at this island, im- mediately demanded of the King $20.C00, and required eu immediate answer. After waiting all night end re- ceiving nO anewer, h» de+patched another letter, iaform- ing the King that if he did not give hin an answer at or before twelve o'clock, be should commence hostilities. The King replied to the last note, offering $500 in cash, and $600 worth of builocks end trixkets. Capt. P. re- fused this, and got bis sip under weigh, and moored her ef the town, one hundred yards from the beach, with his broadside to the town.
