MARKET. Satvrvay, January 10—6 P. M. ‘The market to-day was buoyant, but transactions were rather more limited. It appears to be difficult to get up an excitement among outside speculators, and it will re- quire considerable nursing to get it well under way. ‘There is too much anxiety among holders to realize, and the moment a little improvement takes place, the mar- Ket is flooded with stocks. This causes a reaction, and outtiders are deterred from taking hold as purchasers; Atthe first board, to-day, Erie Railroad advanced 1; per eent ; Morris Canal, {; Harlem, +s; N.J. Zinc, 34; North Americen Trust, Sussex Mining Co, 34; Reading Railroad, 34; New York and New Haven Railroad, 1; Erie Income Bonds, 14. There was more doing in Reading Railroad, the sales being dividend off. Very few believe that the dividend has been earned, and many holders of stock have less faith in ite value since than they had before. This company have a large floatiag debt, which must remain unpaid, and not only so; but allowed to increase. The special act of the Legisla- ture of Pennsylvania, prohibiting this eompany from enlargiug its construction account, seems to have not had the effect intended. Since the passage of that act, a floating debt of one million of dollars has accumulated, and uo provisions have been made for its payment. In the face of these things, a dividend of three and a half per cent has been paid, and the stockholders are, no doubt, glad to get it. To secure the greatest benefit from an investment in this stock, it would be necessary to sell out as soon as the dividend is paid. The receipts at the office of the Assistant Treasurer of this pert to-day, amounted to $61,678 90 ; psyments, $101783 90—balance $1,691,595. In this view, the proposed alliance between the United Btates and England, to enforce ugom Russia the doctrine of non-intervention, falls to the ground, “an obsolete idea.” The future policy of Kop. suth, in his journey to the West, and over the West, will, however, continue the same, in the hope that some pro- vidential circumstance may turn up, which will lead to a general civil war in Europe, and make the doctrine of our active intervention @ practical thing. The coup détat of Louis Napoleon, therefore, has broken up the plans of the revolutionists, and left them to the preca- rious chances of future events. Kossuth thus ceases to be the missionary of a revolutionary scheme, and be- comes the mere dependant upon some miraculous change in European affairs. Palmerston’s resignation drives the last nail into the coffin of active intervention The idea of aralliance between us and Bnglend against Ras- sia—at all times impracticable—mow becomes absurd. The Pope led off in the revolution of 1843 Kuglwod ig not prepared to risk the experiment in 1852 She recoils from the alternative of a war agaiast Nicholas, Francis Joreph, and Louis Napuleon Kossuth must be content to wait a little lowger; and be will doubtless wait on this a.de the Atlantto One reasen why General Scott was not present at the: Congressional Banquet, wan that he was absent in Vir~ ginin; but at the sume time it is quite likely that hia absence was in parc attributable to « desire to escape the inconvenieners of answering an invitation to the divner Soldier as he is, he 14 deadwt against inter- vention, and all foreign emissartes, whose object is co in- volve usin either a large or a small filibustero expe ti- tion, The General is a whig, and an ultra whig--« #hiz- conservative of the old school; and we doubt uot, if his thing of intervention in the effairs of Europe ig made m quvstion tu the Presidential campaign, no will ‘quite willing torun as the native American candidate, gatnst the foreigners and againat their doctrine s important, if true; aud we may yet come to this alter native Gen Sam Houston was atthe Jackron dinner, last night, to Kossuth, but escaped im season to avedde the responribility of aspeech = And thereby bangs a tal ‘The General, after the suspiclous attached to hiw, im conse uence of the Greer and Donaldson correspondence, is anxious to steer clear of the free «ol party. ‘Tho ol Van Buren regime control the Jackson Assvciation—they are angling. with Kossuth as their bait, for a Gi rma vote «f the North and West Che 5 they are moving to carry this thing of interven 100 into the Baltimore Convention. Polk, Now, whea we consider that Jackson Hall is under the management of the oid Glohe and Van Buren association, this omissione wears an ugly complexion, and may possibly accenut for the ebsence of Mr King, President of the Senate, an? ya Speaker ot the House who together wih old Were all indispored on this vecaston [6 es a miphcy pice couside: just dow. to steer eately between Northern free svilismn, and Southeru state rights, as the edigorial of the Union, upon the festival, will show he two factions of the democratic party have ao’ yet come together; and there is set some change tor the Whigs, in toe possible event that the Baltimore Jonven= tion muy fuil to fraternive And that is the only pose sible chance for the whig party. ‘oseuth will leave here on Monday morning, satisfied? thAt in asking too much, he has received more tham could have been expected It ie eid that he leaves here toenter upon the campaign of the Presidential eleotiom inthe West, and all over the West. Our Albany Correspondence. A.wasy, January 8, 1852. Sketch of the New York Delegation, ge By common consent, this session of the L seems tobe marked, in advance, as one of the funniest and busiest ressions ever held in the State of New York sipce the new constituti The two houses are 80 nearly a tie, the Presidential election is sonvar at hand, and the disjointed and uneasy condition of both parties so manifest, that an undue number of Legislative ruses and parliamentary tactiss will doubtless be played off om both sides, to the infinite amusement of unconcerned in- divicuais, but with dubious effect upon the interests of the people at large. ‘The New York delegation were early upon the ground, with the exception of Mr. Miner, detained at home by sickness. They are « highly respectable body of, men, of all ages, from twenty-one to fifty, and representing al- mostall professions and pursuits of life Mr, Maloney, from your Second district, is self-educated man, re markably well versed in political strategies, for which indeed, the Third ward has afforded im its dey « fair field. Mr. Reee, of the Third district, is the oldest mam of the democratic delegation, He has been, heretofore ranked as@ baenburner of the Purser stamp, and is, believe, the only democrat from New York who did now obtain the endoreement of the cotton committee las@ fall. Mr. Rese is, however, now considered a moderadag and will not probably differ from his colleagues. Mr. Ward, of the Yourth district, is the only whig elected) who did not get the Union nomination, and consequent~ ly isranked as a woolly bead. Mr. Brown represente @ whig district, the Fifth, from whieh he is ohosen by means of an old feud—commonly known as the “ Tommy Truslow row ''—among the whigs along the East River, Brown is a self-made man, of considerable abilities, He is @ much older man thao his youthful face would indicate. The Sixth district bas returned! Mr. Blackator & quiet silver gray, and the onlm member of the last Assembly trom the city wha as reelected Mr Blackstone is a man of fair abilities, aed is understood to stand pledged to introduce 8 law Identical with the Maine Anti-Liquor Law, on the firet convenient opportunit: Mr. Luckey, from the Seventh district, succeeds Mr. Raymond; and althouge he may not aspire to the distinction that that eminent wooily heed attained among the small fry of the two late tessions. be will be found, it I mistake not, a hard wi ing and efficient member. Like Mr. Blackstone, Mr. Luckey. owes bie elecction to the temperance ticket. Mr. Gale, from the Ey ey district, represents the unterrified Tenth ward. Mr has been called s barnburner, but was one of thore wie returned early to the fold of old Tammany, ena is now ranked in full standing among the brethren. Without doubt, he will be @ rei and active member, and his ip fluence over his younger colleagues of the same & ty is —e looked upon as very considerable. Dr. ollins, from the Ninth district, is @ quiet, good fellow, bho without aspiring to “much speaking,” will bo povertheless highly esteemed and appreciated by thore who may have opportunity, by close intimacy, to observe bis reat shrewdness and so ense. Colonel Monroe represents the rural districts of Manhatten [sland with his usua! dignity, circumlocution, sod tremeadous sagacity. The has been awfully humbugerd about the Speakership—that is the fact’ That sucha position waa due bim by bis politionl friends te invis putable; aud that it would be "at Ones ond generon conceded. the Colonel's friends never doubted. 4u 2 was the security in which Colonel Monroe reposed. tn«c he left your city at the very last moment, only to arrive
