NEWS BY THE MAIL errr DISASTROUS FIRE IN PHILADELPIA. Several Persons Killed and Injured, &c., dic., de. Our Philadelphia Correspondence. Prrapanriia, Deo. 27, 1351. A moat calamitous fire, this morning, has replaced the ‘Kossuth excitement in the public mind, the Governor having left for Baltimore. The fire commenced in Hart's block. extending along Sixth street, above Chesnut, about two hundred feet, which, as well as the Shakspeare Block on the opporite side of the street, was totally de- molished, the walls of both being razed almost to the foundation. The law book store of the Messrs. Johason, and tho Eagle Hotel, on Chesnut street, were also gutted by the fire. The loss of the Mesars. Johnson, in books, stereatype plates, and other materials, is estimated at $40,000. J. M. Moore’s store, adjoining, was deluged by the water, and the stock damaged to $5,000. The new store of Lindsay & Blackiston,on Sixth street, was damaged slightly by the fire, and deluged by water, injuring bis stock to $12,000. Osis Blood, of letter eh, with T. 8. Quinn, wire worker; James H. Watson, boot maker; Sleeper & Jeannesett, jewellers, and Messrs. McUolgan, are among the sutferers in the Sbakspeare buildings. The Union Fencibles’ armory, in the same building, wes completely destroyed, with their musketa. The real estate gy ad principally to Abra- ham Hart, Wm. H. Winder, the Messrs, Johnson, andthe Holahan estate. ‘The most lamentable part of the calamity is the loss of Life amd injury to the firemen that has attended it. It is well understocd that W. W.
