MOREY MARKET. ‘Tuwmavay, Oct. 8—6 P. M. ‘There was no change of comsequence to dey in the wtock market. The transactions do not vary much in extent from day to dey, and there are no indications at present of apy immediate improvement. The money market io slightly casicr, but there hes not been as yet any reduction in the rates of interest. Several failuces have been reported within the past day or two, and it is highly probable that others will occur, but we have no dea that anything like another panic will overtake us, or that any apprehension need be entertained that a greater stringency will be experienced, than that we ave just emerged from, The steamer for Liverpool car- ried cut more specie than was anticipated, but the banks have increased their supply so rapidly lately that they do not feel the lors of such # moderate shipment. The arrivals from California, within the past week, have been full two and «@ half millions of dollars, which has left, @educting our ebipments, a balance in our favor of about two millions. An accumulation of specie in our banks, et this rate, for any length of time, would firmly restore eonfidence , and put the wheels of speculation again in active operation ‘The failures referred to is selecting the chaff trom the wheat, and when confidence is again established, it will be upon a solid foundation, and wil! not be easily shaken. The National Ineurance Company cf Boston have de- clared a somi-annual dividend of ten per cent, payable on demand. The Manufacturers’ Insurance Cempany of B@ton heve declared a semi annual dividend of fifteen per cent, payable on demand. The Powow River Bank, et Salisbury, Mass., has declared a cemi-? ual dividend of four per cent, ve l¢dtn that the St. Lawrence and Atlantic Railroad will be open for the transportation of passengers and | freight on the 15th instant, as far as Melbourne, a dis- tanee cf seventy-three miles from the banks of the St. Lawrence, opposite Montreal; that the road is graded a: far as Sherbrooke, twenty-three miles from Melbourne and that the road will be completed to the boundary in the courte of next season; and that the funds are pro vided to complete and stock the read. ‘The trustees of the Illinois and Michigan Canal Loan ‘Will soon pay, at the American Exchange Bank, on the 20th inet., a dividend of twenty-one per cent on the prin cipal, together with the regular six menths interest, ‘The Eastern Railroad Company have taken the con- trol of the Scuth Reading Branch and of the Essex Railroad, They guarantee to the Essex road five pe cent on about $350,000 capital; and anything above that per cent produced by the net earnings of the Essex, is to be equally divided between the Eastern and the Essex companies, ‘The aggregate amount received for tolls on the New York State Canals from the commencement of navige- tion to the 30th of September, 1851, inclcsive, was $2,808,541 85. The reason given fer the suspension of payment, is said to be large amounts of the endorsed paper of insolvent tanners, leather deal. ers, &e, which is becoming due, and on which Mr. P, refutes to pay extra interest.
