The Mexican troops stationed there were allow- ed to march out of the town with the honors of war. A report having reached Matamoras that the invaders were preparing to march upon them, # large number of the eewngem including all the women and children, fled, eaving only two hundred and fif.y men in the to prin of these had taken refuge in Brownsville.
