‘THE STATE FAIR AT ROCHESTER, FIRST Day. OUR SPECIAL CORRESPONDENCE. ‘The State Fair opened this morning, amidst bustle, excitement, andthe merry notes of preparation. Scarcely had day dawned, when the streets were filled with ‘Wagons, sulkies, buggies, and all kinds of vehicles, car- Tying the people of the surrounding districts to the city’ ‘end also ertioles for exhibition at the fair. As the morning ‘advanced, cabs and omnibuses might be seen filled with ‘passengersfand running to the fair ground, while others ‘Were waiting for a load, or returning with one from the scene of operations. ‘The Fair grounds are situated about a mile and a half ‘from Rochester, on the South road, which is a continua- tion of Sophie street. They are part of what is called the Wadsworth tract, opposite to Mount Hope. Tho lot contains twenty-nine acres, and commands # beautiful view of Rochester and the surrounding country. The Genesee river lies beneath it in the valley, and adds to the generdl effect. Recently the land had a considerable umber of trees and stumps, but they have been all cut down, and now it is admirably adapted for the purposes of fair. It is surrounded by a strong, high, close fence. with two gates, one fer entrance and the other for exit. At contains 4 number of structures, some of them wood- en buildings, and others very bandsome tents. each de- yoted tocome particular department. The classification and arrangements are highly creditable to the commit. tee. The building that first strikes the eye as you enter, is called Manufacturers’ Hall, a large frame building one hundred and Sfty feet long and seventy-two feet wide.
