Advices were received in this city yesterday, from Apalachicola, St. Marks, Newport, Tallahassee, and other places in Florida, deseripuve of the hurricane and flood oo the 24th and 25th of August, onthe Gulf Coast of Florida. It is said more appalling and terrible hurri- ane bas never been kuown in that region. The light houses at Cape San Blas aud Dog Island are known to have been blown down, and many lives lost. Great fears are apprehended as to vessels in the Gulf, and it ls expected that the southern coast and Keys of Florida are covered with wrecked vessels, and that hun- dreds of human beings buve been drowned. The sea rose several feet higher than at any former period; the cotton flelds of Middle Florida are laid waste, and it is mot anticipated that more (bun half» crop will be saved, ond it is feared that the injury has extended into Georgia AT APALACHICOLA.
