ARRIVAL OF THE BROTHER JONATHAN FROM CHAGRES. WRECK OF THE STEAMSHIP UNION, With a large amount of Gold Lust on board, PASSENGERS AND bust SAVED, Bier, Sie, dice The steamehip Brother Jonathan, Captain Squiers’ reached her dock about half after 12 o'clock, this morn- ing. She reached Chagres on the morning of the 6th inst., and tailed thence on the evening of the 9th, and from Kingston on the 12th. We understand that she was delayed, on her return trip by a fire, which broke out near the boilers, on the evening of the 17th inst. ‘The vessel was densely crowded with passengers, and for a time the excitement among them was intense. How- ever, in less than au hour, the flames were extinguished ‘and quiet was restored. The boilers sustained so much injury by the fire, that bat slow progress was made thereafter. Uhe passengers award great credit to Capt. Squicrs and bis officers, for their promptness and de- cision during the copsternation, ‘The steamship Union, four days out from San Fran- | cisco, went ashore on St Quinlun’s reef, at three o'clock | On the morning ot the 5th ult. She is a total wreck. She had three hundred thousand dollars in gold dust, and | three hundred passengers on bourd. The passengers and dust were all suved. with the exception of six thousand dollars, which was taken by the passengers and crew, None of the freight was caved. ‘The steamship Falcon was left at Chagres, awaiting the mails, ‘The steamer Ohio reached Chagres on the 9th inst. with a broken sbait, and one engine so much disabled that the will go to Navy Bay, and await orders from her owners, Her sbaft was broken off Kingston, on the Sth inst, She reported having experienced beavy weather, ‘The steerage pastengers of the steamer Commodore Stockton, lying at Tabogw. mutinied on the morning of the Sth instant, aud demanded the return of their pas- suye money. They drove the crew from their work, cut up the tackling, &e , sud at last accounts had complete Poseession of the vessel.
