the dates of the accounte last made up, and compara- tively with returse for corresponding periods. The sub. joined table gives the aggregate weekly average of the mote circulation of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, as it stood for the four weeks ending the ‘2Ath and Jist of May,and the 7th and lith of June, being the latest date to which the returns have been col- kectively completed for all the banks of issue; and also the reculte, as compared with the returns for the previous four weeks ending the 17th of May:— 7) 25,161 il 2,805,254 ‘Total in England. TCA, T6H, 33 rh i" 19, in aa ES United Kingdom. . . £33,909,990 3103 Showing a decrease of £758,973 in the note circulation of England and Wales, and 4 dec rease of £829,317 in the cireulation of the United Kingdom, when compares with ‘the returns for the previous four weeks ondiug the 17th ef May. On comparing the above returns with the fixed issues ef the several banks, the following is the state of the cir- eulation:—The fixed issues of the private banks of Eag- | |, it follows | 3. The fixed | Jand and Wales being at present £4,767,5; that they were below the ameunt £1,25 Seeues of the joint stock bemks boing £7.409,987, it fol- Jews they were below the amount £604,703. The fixed fiesnes of the Scotch banks being £3,087,209, it follows ‘they were above the amount £380,972, but with specie in hand to oover the excess, and issues for £492,230 besides, ‘Whe fixed issues of the Irish banks being £6,354 494, it | doliows they were belew the amount £2,985,576, with epecie in band to cover issues for £1,308,255 more, It appears, therefore, that the mote circulation of the Private and joint stock banks of England and Wales was 1,858,479 below the amount axthorized to be issued; end that, inclusive of Scotland and Ireland, the circula- tion was, on balance, £3,557.083 below the fixed amount. ‘The average amount of coin and bullion held by the Bank of Bngland in both departinents, during the four weeks ending the Mth June, was £13,758,833, showing an dmerease on the previous month’s return of £495,973. ‘The average stock of epecie held by the Irieh banks dur- ng the same period, was £1,308,256, being a decrease on he retarn for the previous four weeks of £15,933. The average of specie held by the Scotch banks during the fame term, was £879,202; decrease on the previous month, 497,673, ‘The aggregate circulation of the United Kingdom, on the 17th of Mey, 1851, was £33, 140,663, against £33,232,246 en the 15th of June, 1€50, showing a decrease of £01,583, ‘The yearly comparison of the stock of coin and bullion held, stands thus:—Bank of England, £3,053,103 less; Trish Banks, £115,646 less; Scotch Banks, £22,839 more— setnal decrease on balance, June 14, 1851, £3,145,910. It appears by returns published in Herapath’s Journal, that the total reoeipts in 6,232 miles of railway in Great Britain and Ireland, for the week ending the Ist of July, 1851, were £300,204, equal to £49 per mile per week. In the corresponding week of last year the amount was £206,185, on 5,790 miles, or £46 per mile per week. There is thus an increase of £34,409, or 14 81 per cent, in the ngeregate receipts; an increase of 442 miles, of 7 63 per cent, in the mileage; and an increase of £3 in the amount received per mile per week. The Railway Times estimate the total traffic returned since the Ist of Janu- ary, at £6,182,745, which, on 6,209 miles, is equivalent to £906 15e. Sd. per mile. For the same peried in last year it was returned at £5,545,279 on 5,774 miles, or £060 7s. 9d. per mile. The balance is thus in favor of the pre- went year to the extent of £35 7s. 8d. per mile.
