Wasniveron, June 3, 1851. ‘The inquiry into the alleged fraud practised by Dr, Gardiner, upon the Mexican Commission, has been turned over to Mr. Fendall, Dietriet Attorney for this district. Dr. Charles W. Davis, Secretary of the late Board, Ben. Jamin E. Green, lene D. Marks, A. 8. Parrott, Mr. Porte, ‘and Senor Cuests. of the Mexican legation, have been summoned by the grand jury, ‘now Fitting, and the three first named gentlemen were examined today. Mr. Par- rott is Dew at Seratoga, but has been written for. He was formerly eonsul at Mazatlan. The facts developed to-day are, that Mr. Porte, who is now in New York, but was formerly » metehant at Puebla, Mexioo, (the same gentleman who bed the tobaeco dispute with ex-Seern- tery Clayton.) stated to Parrott that @ had told him, just previous to his saillug, that was a fraudulent one, and had been sustained with forged papers, got up in Mexico, and that, us parties | in Wasbington had got the lion’s share out of it, he was determined they should share the blame also, As soon as Porte told this, Mr. Curtis wrote to the ‘President informing him of it, and demanded an investi- athon. Laet night, a public dinner tock place im this city, “for ‘the promotion of British American railway enterprise ”’ ud was attended by the Gorernor General, Hon. James | Howe, railway delegate from Nova Scotia, nearly all the members of the Canadian Legislature, ane the principal people of the neighborhood. The tickets sold at four | dollars; but the “ feed”’ was, nevertheless, of a very infe- | rior kind. It was oaly saved from condemmation by an abundance of champagne. After dinner, the Governor General made a speech, in | which, alluding to the friendly inter-hange of courtesies that have taken place between Cuncdians and their meighbors on the other side of the lime, he said :—* I be- eve there are some gentiemen ‘rom the United States in this room. And I believe I need hardly remind them that we Canadians ary disposed to carry our reel- procity a little further—to iaterchange with them upon equni, fair terme, if they will have it ec—to deal with tuem on a solid footing, as well asin empty praises.
