PROBABLE TRIUMPH OF OF THE CANAL PARTY. FURTHER ‘PROM E EUROPE. ADV ICES FROM ALL ‘QUARTERS, The Special Senatorial Elections. We have only a few meagre returns by telegraph, from part of the following districts :— NINTH DISTRICT—ORANGE AND BULLIVEY Cours. ‘The returns indicate the re-election of the democratic candidate, James 0. Curtis, over Halstead Sweet, whig. Goshen, Orange county, gives Curtiss 65 majority (last fall democratic majority, 30); Walkill, two districts, gives Sweet, (whig) 20 majority; Newburgh gives Curtiss about 175 majority (last fall whig majority 39.) EIGHTH DISTRICT—DUTCHESS AND COLUMBIA COUNTERS, ‘The returns are favorable to the clection of the whig candidate, Joseph Halsted, over John Snyder, the late democratic Senator, as follows:— Durcieas Cousty.—Poughkeepsie gives Halsted (whig) 600 majority. Whig gain, 333, Corvmma Covxry.—In Hudson, Halsted’s majority is 69. Whig gain, 56. ‘The democratic majority in the two counties last fall, was 135, NINETEENTH DISTRICT—=ONEIDA COUNTY. Benja. N. Huntington (whig) is doubtless elected over Charles A. Mann, the leader of the democratic resigning Senators. In Utica, Huntington's majority is reported at 600—whig gain, 742. In Rome, Huntington's majo- rity, 285; last fall dem., 117—whig gain, 502. Accord- ing to the telegraph, Huntington's majority in the county will be from 1,200 to 1.500. TWENTIETH DISTRICT—OSWEGO AND MADISON. Moses P. Hatoh, Canal democrat, runs against Charles Stebbins, anti-Canal democrat. Ovwego city gives Hatch 1,000 majority—a vote nearly unanimous in favor of the Canal policy, in which Oswego is deeply interested. Whig majority last full, 62. We presume there is no doubt of the election of Hatch, asthe abolitionists, under advice of Gerrit Smith, in Madison county, join the canal men in supplanting him. THE LATEST DESPATOHES. Unies, May 27, 1861. The majority against Mann, in this city, is 979 The yote is quite light. E: ward gives a majority for Huntington. Whitesboro’ gives Huntington 402 ma- jority. Mann is probably defeated by 2,000 votes. Mann has 18 majority in Maroy. Fort Prsre, May 27, 1851 In Montgomery county, Amsterdam gives 497 majority for Sanford, whig; Palatine, 100; Florida, 63; Canajo- harie, 65; Glenn, 100; Mohawk, 67; Minden, 181. For some time past there had been such a general desire to sell, thatthe weekly decline of prices was unprecedented; but this week. the conduct of holders im pressing sales was such that a crixiv; was evi- dently inevitable, and one great cause of the rapid de- cline in our market, indeed the principal cause, must be attributed to the orders received from the shippers of cotton in the United States, to sell irrespective of price, but of course expecting, when such orders were given, to obtain one anda half penny to two pence per pound above our, present rates; the practical effect of whick ‘was, that with perhaps 50,000 bales daily om sale, and only a demand for three to four thousand, it followed as amatter of courre, that almost each sale was at a de- cline uj the ing one, as the reduction in price, 60 far from inducing @ buyer to take » large quantity, almost invariably had a contrary effect. Our reporter, yesterday, visited the ecene of the bat- tle im Hoboken, and ascertained some further parti- culats of the melancholy transaction, together with more definite information as to the origin of the riot. The place presented a scene of desolation—houses wrecked—trees broken—gardens and grass-plots tram- pled, and the people all looking sad that such atrocities were perpetrated in their village. Groups might be'seen here and thére; discussing the merits of the combatants, | oreach describing some incident of the fight, that he had witnessed hinmelf, -Black eyes, broken noses, ban- aged heads, and scratched-faces, covered with patches | were numerous, Martin Bridges, the ship carpenter, whose name we mentioned in our report yesterday a+ being fatally | wounded, died during the night. The poor fellow took | no part in the riot, and like some of the spectators at the Astor Place riot, had just gone out of his house after tes, and was merely looking on, when he was assailed by the infuriated Germans, This is the only man, as yet, that we have heard is uctually dead, and even be was not killed on the spot. Considering the length of the fight. the weapons used, whieh they were frequently matched. it is singular there was none left dead on the field. Sometimes a dozen to- gether assailed one man with Lludgeons; but, in many | instances, they hindered cach other from thelr eagerness to despatch their victim. No doubt, however, as in the case of the Astor Place riot, several will die from the effects of their wourds. ‘The scene of battle—extending from McCarty's through | the whole length of Hudson street to the ferry—pre- sented traces of blood. and other marks of the fray Thousands of persons from the city visited the ground | yesterday, from curiosity, and among them a large num- ber of Germans. MeCarty’s saloon did not look so bad yesterday as might Le expected, and he appeared to be doing as good a business as if nothing had happened. Yrom all the conflicting statements we have heard, we have learned that the origin of the riot is as follows :-— Avout 6,000 Germans proceeded to Hoboken, as we have already stated, to hold their annual May festival. For the last two or three years. disturbances oceurted at these | celebrations, between them and the Short Boys. This time the Germans came prepared to punish the Short Beys; and accordingly a chosen corps was appointed. numbering about 500 amen, 4s a protective police, who | Wore white coats, were organized, and acted in’con- cert by signals, and by the sound of a horn, Many | of them fought in the Hungarian war; and, being | athletic fellows. it is said they longed to show the Short Boys what a thrashing they could give them, the Germans applied to MeCariy for the use of his | grounds; but he refused them, as he did not wish to have euch a crowd about his place. They accordingly applied in another quarter, aad got the ground called where we age their tents and erected their stands. They had wagons laden with provisions and beer For cach of these wagons a toll of $2 was charged, by the tenant whe holds under Mr. Stevens. ‘The Germans were practising gy:nastic games and | partaking of refreshments, when, at one exiremity of Ure camp, @ small row oceurred between some of them and three men said to be the Short Boys, who were pro- bly sent on as an advenced guard, ora skirmishing These Boys acted im; rly, in some way or » ip refere latter beat thei and pursued them to MeCariy’s house. One of them was bleeding very much, and they besought rty to protect them. The Germans demanded their nder, McCarty refused. and both he and Justice Bunning persuadsd them to go away.
