When General Bonaparte felt himself called to teave Egypt, the army was left to his subordinates, and they soon made a sacrifice of it. Soof Mr, Clay and the harbor bill. When he left the Senate last night, at elevea o’clock, to rest himself, aftera siege of twelve hours, he committed the River and Harbor bill to the care of Mr. Underwood, who, after a pretty clever fight of six hours longer, was ompelled to give in, and to capitulate to the enemy. Now, who are responsible for the defeat of the River and Harbor bill? Here they are:—Messrs. t, Dawson, Downs, Foote, btn ifireon Davia, Soule, and” others. Messrs. Cass and Douglas will have to face the music. To be sure, they voted to take up the bill, and they voted against laying down the bill; but the: ke ust the bill, and were arrayed arnong the encani of the bill from the first to the ane River and Harbor bill will be made a ques- tion before the people, and the miserable clap-trap and ariful dodging of the Senate will no more ‘ail among the sovereigns oe te fuss of Gen.
