In the House, a resolution from the Committee on Printiog was ordered to be engrossed, relieving Father Ritchie from his priating contract, and giving him io leu of the terms which he agreed upon, one-half of the rates fixed by the law of 3819. The vote on the engrossment was very elose, there being but a majority of three votes in its favor. Father Ritchie certainly has had a very marrow escape; bet he is not yet safe, although we expect the resolution will become a law. The Committee on Ways and Means, we under- stand, have agieed upon reporting an additional um in aid of the Collins’ line of steamships. We are rejoiced at this. Our government must Support those splendif steamships. The market opened heavy this morning, and prices fell off considerably. There were large transactions inthe leading railroad fancies, principally for cash. At the fret board Erie Income Bonds declined \ per cent; Farmers’ Loan %; MorrisCanal 13¢; Long Island 44; Edgeworth %; Reading Railroad 3{; Hudson River Railroad 1; Erie Railroad 2; Harlem ; Norwich and Worcester 1}{. State stocks and railroad bonds were in better demand. Harlem was very firm at quota- tions, and varied less to-day than any other on the list. Nearly two thousand shares were put upon the market, and it improved from the opening. Morris Canal bas declined three per cent since yesterday morning: Theannouncement made in the Herald that an injunction had been granted by the Chancellor of New Jersey, created considerable excitement in Wall street, and depressed the market value of the stock very materially. As soonas the company have been ofMcially served with the injunction, all transfers of the old stock will cease; and if the board of di- Teetcrs do not at once proceed to carry out the pro- visions of the act amending the charter, a receiver will be appointed to protect the interest of the stook- holders. The management of this company have been guilty of a grors outrage upon the rights and pri- vile of stockholders, and it isabout time an injunc” tion or some other restriction, was put upon them. It appears that soon after the act amending the charter of the Morris Canal Company passed the Legislature of New Jersey, the stockhelders held a meeting and voted to accept the amendment, and at the same time passed @ resolution requiring a consolidation of the eld stock, au issue of preferred stock, and an aban. donment of the old banking privileges. These were the conditions of {the supplementary act, and they were adopted. Some time after, the board of directors got together, and voted toreecind the resolution pass- edj by the stockholders, to comsolidate the old stock. The directors had no more right to do this then they had to put their hands inthe stockholders’ pockets extract their stock, and destroy it. It ir, however about on a par with the doings of boards ot directors ail over the country, and should not astonish any one. ‘This injuvetion will put matters and things all right. and we shall know what @ certificate of stock means, andbow many shares represent the capital stock of the company. ‘The receipts at the office of the Assistant Treacurer of thie port, to-day, amcanted to $91,770 21; payments, $900 52—balance, $3,678,041 72.
