The total receipts inte tho trea- sury of the State, from the let day of December, 1849, to the 30th day of November. 1860, amounted, with the Delance in the treasury, to $5,644,338. The expendi- tures amounted to $4,569,053, and on the 30th of No- vember, 1850, the available balance in the treasury was $754,252. ‘The Newark Mercury, noticing a meeting of citizens of New Jersey, recently held at Stanhope, in Sussex eounty, to promote the extension of the Morris and Besex Railroad to the Delaware Water Gap, where it ‘will meet the line of railroads now being constructed through Pennsylvania to Owego, — It was stated at the mecting at Stanhope, on Thurs- @ey, that there was not in the whole Union, no? ‘even in the gold region, county of the mineral wealth of Sussex; and from the evidence adduced we are dis ‘posed to believe the assertion. It msy be declared, we think with perfect correctness, that no district can be found combining in such a wonderful degree, all the richness of varied mineral wealth, and that quality o soil which renders it peculiarly fertile. The two ranges of mountains which pas through what is termed the mineral district, are rich in various metals, with mines easily worked, and with water power for the most extended enterprise. It was stated by Mr. Hewitt, ofthe Sussex Mine Company, that he had frequently taken up a piece of ore containing seven different metals; and in iron. sino and copper, this ter- Fitory is found unfailing These great mineral resources are surrounded by an agrieultural region that can searcely be surpassed. Independent of this, we shall De provided with » communication with the groat ‘west, more direct than any other route. The Susque- hannu ond Delaware Railroad is’already commenced frem the Water Gap to Cobb’s Gap, where it will moet with another road to Blmira, furnishing a route nearly one hundred miles nearer to the city of New York than apyother. The preliminary steps have been taken for the construction of a railroad from Geneva to Ithaca, between Seneca and Cayuge lakes, to connect withthe Cay uge and Susquebanna road, from Ithaca to Owego, which has been for some years past in operation The road is being extended from Owego to the Lackawana eal beds at Scrantonia, and is known asthe ‘ Leggett’s Gap’ Railroad. Thus, instead of being driven from our trade with Pennsylvania, by roads tributary tothe Brie Railroad, we shall have pouring into this extended lines part, at least, of the products of the Empire Btate.
