MESSRS. BROWN AND SHIPLEY'S CIRCULAR. Livenroot, Deo, 13, 1858. We have experienced « steady, good demand for cottom throngheut the past week, with an improve ment in the lower and middling qualities of Ame- vican, of 4. per lb., whilst the better qualities are unchapged—the market closing steadily but quiet- ly at our quotetions. Fair Orleans 84., fair Mobiles 1K4., fale Uplands 7Kd. per lb., middling qualities Td. @ 7 11-166 per lb. There has been rather more doing this week in yarns and goods at slightly advanced rates. The salesof cotton for the week are ertimated at 41,100 bales, of which speculators have taken 6,600, and exporters 1,960 bales. The Amert- ean descriptions eld, consist of 10,500 Uplands at 64. to 8d; 11,340 Orleans at 64. to Od. ; 5,890 Mobiles and Ajabamas at 64{d.to 1%d., and 190 Sea Islands at 11344. to 22d. per Ib. Tho erieele at, Pyet tae ‘page. ‘There is nothing very striking in the political news. . Affairs on the continent remained in statu quo. » The commercial news is interesting, showing aslight improvement in cotton, with a steady market. The ‘several departments of trade, commerce, and finance ‘Wore beginning to manifest an improving tendency. The market for foreign had e more active appearance, of further improvement of the New Year. The corn market, although active, kept steady. Livenroot, Friday, Deo, 13, 1850. ‘The present week opened with a firm but quiet mar- ket, the trade buying speringly, and the relative high rates mow current having limited all speculative transactions. The sales,of Friday were only five thousand bales ; those of Saturday, six thousand; of Monday, 5,000, and of Tuesday, 4,000. An impreved tone pervades geferal trade in Manchester. Ou Tuss- day full prices were readily attainable for manufac. tures, and the opinion having gained ground thet peace would be maintained the continent, gave general confidence. A consequence of this has deem @ decided improvement in demand here at some little advance in prices, The sales of Wednesday were 7,000 bales, and those of yesterday 8,000; the totel eales of the week amounting to 41.240 Dales. To-day the tradeagain buy freely, and 7,000 bales were cold at the highest rate of the week, imcluding 1,000 taken on speculation sad for export, To- day there is a diMeulty in purchasing the fair qualities of American at the quotstions. Ameri- eam deroriptions are in good request, and less freely offered. The quotations of fair qualities have not changed, but the lower and middling quali- thes have uniformly advanced about 4 per pound in the manufacturing districts was steadier, and. prices are paid for yarns and woollens. advices speak of ah impreved appearance ebief markets there, consequent upon the | pastiat eubsigeree of poltien ppreheasion. “The Beglish money market continued steady, and pies loro Laser romilcernie The publio securities kept buoyant. American securities had been steady. without presenting any new feature. ‘The German Troubles. The events in Central Harope have gone on varying qn aspect during the week, and whatever now may be eaid about the conditions of peace, or rather the port ponement of hostilities agreed upon at Olmuts ‘We see but little to shake our conviction, thet both parties are trying to overreach the other, and that the free conferences which are to be opened on the 18th instant at Dresden, are not more likely to settle per- manently the relative preponderance of Austria or Prussia, then any of the numerous dicts that have tried their hands at thie gordian kaot during many years past.
