MONBY MARKET. ‘Tuunapar, December 12-6 P, M. ‘There having been no session of the board of brokers to-day, very little business was transacted, in Wall street, in taney stocks. A few private operations were made at prices current at the close yesterday. The market will, therefore, without much doubt, open firm to-morrew morning, and for the remaining two days of the week we shall, probably, have a very active time among stock speculators. The news from Burope, by ‘the steamship America, is not unfavorable for holders ef our local stocks, but we eannot say ae much for those engeged im commercial transactions. It is im- possible to form an opinion, from the advices received ‘by this steamer, relative to the result of the move ments going on in the political affairs of the conti_ ment, and we shall look for later intelligence from the eld world with a great deal of anxiety. A general war im Burope is, by no means, among the imposeibilities. A few weeks will decide the questions at issue. The steamship Africa in the next steamer due at this port direct from Liverpool, but we cannot Jook for. her arrival before the latter part of next In the meantime, speculators in stocks will put up all the steam pessible, and these who foresee the coming storm will take advantage of the excitement and get out in time to realize handsome profits on their eperations. Inthe event of a general war throughout Rurope, we shall be gainers as well as losers. Prices for our great staple, cotton, may depreciate, bat exte: sive markets will spring up for our breadstuffs, and our manufacturing interest will receive a powerful impetus. ‘The annexed statement exhibits the receipts of Oali- fornia geld dost at the Branch Mint, New Orleans, from ‘the Ist of October to the 25th ot November, and the eoimage during the rame period:— Becurers oF Carironnia Goin at New Onveans, Amount of California gold dust received $445,000 23 during the month of October.......+ Amount received from the lst to the 26th of November, . sees 893,566 86 $1,838,625 09 Octo! 640,000 00 ana om the Ist to the och, ‘ott November — 600,000 00 Total eotmage..... cece cece ee cess + $1,240,000 00 ‘The receipts of California gold at New Orleans, since the 25th of November, have been about balf a million, which makes the aggregate since Oct. Canals throughout the northern section 0 the country have been particularly unfortunate this year. Two freshets, unprecedented for the sea eon, have swept through them, causing various break- ages and delays in navigation; but the result, so far a. tolls are concerned, has not been so disastrous as a: theipated A special meeting of the etoekholders of the Pena- sylvanis Railroad was held at the office of the com- pany, on the Sth inst.,at which the city of Philadel. phia, county of Allegheny, and district of Spring Gar- den, were each represented by authorised agents, to take into consideration the supplement to the act in- eorperating the company, approved last April, and for other purposes. The board of directors submitted « report through the President of the company, recom- mending the acceptance of the supplemental cbarter, passed Inet April which provides for avoiding unneces- eary expense and delay in the settlement of lan 1 dama- gee, and for changing the termination of the fiscal year from the Slet of October to the Sist of December; also, recommending that the capital stock of the company be Increased to ten millions of dollars, under the thority conferred by the 20th section of the act of In: corporation, as a necersary preliminary to such fur- ‘ther sotion as may be required to provide means for constructing the mountain division of the road.
