It commands much of the | trade of Upper Caneda, northern New York, and the | ‘Western States, It has diverted, and will continue (to | much greater extent.) to divert business from this city, unless some efficient measuresare adopted to counteract it. This is caused by the exemption from Btate tolls, to whieh our canals abject, as well as | all our railroads running near them. Hence they are enabled to carry produce and goods at one-half the price, per mile,-on the Ogdensburg ond Champlain | railroad, than is dene by railroad or canal to Troy and Albany.
