(ea MONBY MARK PT Monoar, Nov, 25—6 P.M. ‘The stock market opencd very firm and active, this Morniag. The movements in Erie Railroad created considerable exeltement, and the advance in that fancy had 8 favorable infiaen. pom Operations gene- rally. Railroad bonds were in demand to-day. The corner in Erie Ballroad progresses very rapid), fares appearances go. the bulls have things awn way; but itis our impression that jn this, as in many other Wall street affairs, appearances are deceit- ful. The wire pullers are fast weaving @ net work about themselves, which they will find it diMoult to Femove. The member of the board of management will have more troubly io dispose of the large lots of stook bought in the street today, than he bed im purchasing them. The appearance of this individual in the street, as ® regular ope- rator in Erie Railroad, created quite s sensa- tien; and when he offered 83, buyer 80 days, for 1,000 shares, and immediately gave notice for delivery to-morrow, the whole movement was exposed. There Isa story pretty current in Wall street, that the beard of brokers, holds its early srssion at the office of the Erie Rallroad Company, and adjourns from that place to the Exchange. The story probably originated from the fact that s large number of members of the board, post themselves up in the office of the Erie Railroad Company before attending the regular session. The stock market is entirely sustained by the advancein Brie Railroad to dey. Hy a telegraphic despatch from Philadelphia, we learn that one thousand shares of Morris Canal were sold this atternoon at twenty anda half per cent. The receipte at the office of the Arsistant Treasurer Of this port, to-day, amounted to $70,020. Payments, $79,535 88. Balance, $3 105,188. The decline in quotatioes tor foreign exchange, has not created any activity in the market. Thus far, the demand for ‘ance by the steamer leaving Bos- ton, on Wednesday, has buen very limited. Agree. Alle. inhabit. | Giana, and the Ohio ond Indians railroads; one rua- ming towards Indianapolis and St. Louis, and the other in the direction of Fort Wayne and Chicago. ‘This railroad runs through Allegheny counties, in Pennsylvanis, and Columbians, Stark, Wayne, Ashland, and Richland counties, in Ohio. All of these counties are highly cultivated, populous, and productive, and greatly in want of railroad facilities. Beginning in the heart of the bituminous coal and iron region of Pennsylvania at Pittsburgh, it traverses the richest wheat growing region of Ohio. Turning the river hills upom the north, and running over the table lands, it crosses no large stream throughout its whole length, with the single exception of the Big Beaver. It is well know to those conversant with the manage- ment of railroads, that their most reliable profits are ‘those derived from the way trade and travel. For the through business there is al: more or less compe- tition, but the way trade and travel make the home market of a railroad. Im this respect, this line ocou- pies a very strong position, as it runs by, or within about a mile, of more than thirty towns and villages: Great care has been taken in the location of the line to accommodate the local population, without delaying the through trains unnecessarily in the towns. The mortgage bonds of the company. with the privi- lege of conversion into its stock at the optien of the holder, are issued for the purpose of paying for the superstructure and equipment of the road, and they have the entire property tor their security, eosting, completed up to Massilion, $2,085,000. In every point link between great centres of agriculture and manufactures, and as grand trunk line connecting the eastern cities with the western States, the Ohio and Pennsylvania Rall- road promises to be highly profitable. Its total cost per mile, when completed with heavy rails weighing sixty pounds per yard, and with more moderate grades and curves than those on the Penn- sylvania Central Railroad, of which it is the exten- sion, will be less than one half the cost of that work. ‘That road, which is 243 miles long from Harrisburg to Pittsburgh, is estimated to cost $9,190,000, or an aver- age of $37,056 per m! eof equipment. This road, 185 miles Jong, is estimated to cost, without equipment, $3,070,000, or an average of $16,594 per mile. The line runs parallel to the Onto river for only twenty-five miles, on which the minimum radius of curvature is half s mile, and the road generally a dead level, adapted to be run at very high velocities, The passenger travel between Pittsburgh and Beaver, amounts to about 400 persons per day, without rail- road facilities, and it will be greatly increased with them. The navigation of the Ohio is slow, uncertain, irregular, and etten obstructed, and s passenger on the railroad may reach s point in am hour, which, by steamboat, would require half a day. ‘The bonds of the company, now to be sold, are to pay for the superstructure and equipment of the line from Pittsburgh to Massillon, 107 miles. The estimated cost of grading and bridging, for this distance, is $775,000, to which should be added for the right of way, fencing, depot grounds, buildings, water sta- tions, contingencies, and engincering, $213,000, making $995 000. There is very little doubt but that these bonds afford one of the safest and most desirable seeurities in the country, and it is confidently expected that the right cf converting them into stock at par will be availed of by the holders. The amount of property appropriated for the protection of the first mortgage bonds of the Ohio and Penneylvania Railroad Company, places them atthe top of the list of that class of securiiies. Pro- posals fer any amount not less than one thousand dollars, will be received until 3 o'clock on the seventh of December next, at the office of Winslow, Lanter, & Co, No. 62 Wall street. Parties whose bids are accepted will be required to pay twenty per cent. upon the amount awarded to them, immediately upon being notified ot the acceptance of their bids, and the re- mainder in equal amounts on the first day of January, February, March and April next--but any party will be at liberty to pay in full at once.
