The Commencement of the Breaking wp—Disloca- thon of the Demeeratic Party in the South, ond of the Whig Povty in the North The Curions Origin.of Mr. Crittenden's Opinion From certain piclimiaary political meetings in Georgia, it will be diecovered ther: of @higs and demoerats is tour be abandoned, and that a new arrangemen( of tie Waion pariy aed | the recession party i@ about le cupemede the od a@eder of things. The Union party ie conetitu ed of the masqef the iy whig party, and a small portion of the democrats; the secession party is made up of the mass of the democrats, and a small detachment of the whigs; and it appears that under this new organization these lately hostile elements mingle with as mach harmony as if such divisions as whig ard demo- crat had never existed. Such is the. beginning of the breaking up of old party limes, party namee, and\ abriele for the bull, . pny principles, on the great ultimate question of ‘nion or dissolution. The proceedings ef the forthcor Goceate Coovenien-<0 extra session of the islature—of the extra session of t! ony it ture—and of the South Carolina Tegalatere and of the Nashville Convention—will, trom the espect of the politics of the Sout! tend the area of new arrangement of parties all over the cotewquewing States. Let this be done, and the oy a lemocratic Bae will be de- funct in the South. pone wi be dead, and will ye be revered i a n equally signi fant isruption in the whig ranks is manifest in New York. Any ement between Granger and Greeley to agree to disagree, isa mere armistice. There is an old grudge to be settled between the Seward and Filimore clans, which nothing short of a breaking up of the whig party of New York will eradicate. ere, in Washington, it is not expected that the whigs will have the good grace to unite upon the letter of Mr. Hunt, ty a eeneny adjustment. It is no more satisfactory to Mr. Duer, we presume, than is Mr. Crittenden’s opinion of the fugitive act to Abby Folsom and Fred Douglass, It amounts to about the same thing, and if the New York whigs concur in supporting the letter of Mr. Hunt, they concur in cutting loose from the South altogether. If they revolt, the party is broken up in the State,—if es do not revolt, the nationalit of the New York whigs is abolitionized, sectional- ized, and cut off trom all communion with the whigs of the South. The cabinet have put in a mighty effort to bind up the new and horrible wound in New York— geping and bleeding worse than all of Mr. Clay’s ve bleeding wounds” put together. What have they done? Finding that Mr. Fillmore was in a bad predicoment in respect to the galing, of the Fugitive bill, and desirous to concilate the over- whelming anti Fugitive bill excitement in New York, the cabinet put their heads together, and Mr. Crittenden, the Attorney General, is saddled with the responsi in the publication of his opinion of the con: ionality of the Fugitive bill. North and South, such ia the beginning of the gig ov conciliation of Mr. Clay’s adjust- ment. io be the end? No ean tell. It starts with a fair prospect of breaking both the old political parties. It promises to down the hist of the United States to som less than the fifetime of an old man. Wasnineton, Oct. 19, 1850. Miscellaneous Affairs. Mr. Butler King will leave this city in a day or two for New York, preparatory to his departure for San Francisco. It will be his object to get there in time to present to Congress, before the adjourn- Ment, a report on the commerce, present and pros- pective, of California. The two or three cabinet officers in the city had a council with the President to-day, according to custom, during which the state of affairs in New York was discussed in @ conversational way. The city is improving rapidly. When our visiters returp they will hardly recognize the National Hotel from the very extensive and elegant additions to it, equal to the accommodation of 150 additional guests with comfortable lodgings. A fine large building has also been added to lirown’s Hotel, having quite an up town New Yorkish appearance.
