Governor Honatio Skymou, of Oneida county For Lieutenant Governer. £axpronp E. Cruvxen, of Orleans county + Conal Commissioner, Joun C. Matren, of Rensseluer county, | Clerk of the Court of Appeals. | Crianies 8 Bewron, of Herkimer county. Mr. Ascet, of Chauteuque county. H This convention bas been one of the funniest ga- therings of wise men and philosophers, rowdies and rioters, that we have ever heard of. They | pe tly harmonious. They commenced ions by admitting the most notorious free | roilers, and followed it up by admitting rowdies, | every one else that applied fora seat. They | seemed willing to admit every body and every thing, for the sake of harmony; and we think it | likely, thet if Setan hin f had applied for a seat, they would have let him in too, including his tail, among the other politicians—for the “ gentleman in black” is quite a politician in his own way. In regard to the admission of Captain Rynders and John Van Buren, both were admitted with their tails ; and it will, no doubt, have a great influence on morality in New York, and the result of the nextelection. We like it rether. All this ates that the democracy are shrewd, and understand the real position of the country, and the tone of the public mind. They are en- deavoring to get out of the storm caused by the slavery agitation, and preparing to start on a new voyage, with new sails, true compasses, and every- thing else needtul for a long run. They are re- suming their old ground; and if the whigs don’t book out, they will be passed before two years. John Van Buren’s sins of free soilism will be for- gotten and buried in oblivion before six months, and Captain Rynders’ spirit and spunk will become a species of modern morality within less time, far purer and more useful than that of Greeley’s so- ciadism. The movements of the two parties are becoming quite funny and interesting, and the probability is that the next election in this State will be one of Jenny Lind’s Second Concert at Castie convert. Tur Forrest Case—Mas. Forrest's Surr— Strraxer Deveorrmests acatnst Mr. Forrest.— Several journals have announced the fact that Mrs. Edwin Forrest has commenced a suit for divotce from her husbaad, before Judge Edmonds, in the Supreme Court. A portion of the proceedings, also, bave been published, together With several blunders, which were corrected by us, yesterday, in a card from Mr. Forrest's counsel, who rectified eee errors, chiefly made by the Courier and Enquirer.
