OLYMPIC, Orexs Trov ve AFTERNOON AND EvENine. erk, Saturday, Mighiy bmportant from Washington—Pas- Boundary and the sage of the Texan New Mexican Bills, Itis with infinite pleasure that we inform our Teaders of the yassege, by the House of Represen- tives, yesterday, of the bill providing for the settle- ment of the boundary dispute between Texas and New Mexico, and the bill establishing a territorial government for New Mexico, as they were re- ceived from the Senate. We congratulate the whole coun North, East, South, and West—on these glorious tidings. The great question is settled—the country is safe—harmony is preserved between the different sections and interests of our republic: and, thank God, the agitators and dis- unionists, of all colors, factions, hues, and shades, and sections, have been met and overcome. Those disorganizers have done their worst, but they are now transfixed. They sought, by every means in their power, to disturb the harmony of our beautiful political system, and to con- vert this happy (and God-favored republic into a cluster of rival and, perbaps, hostile States; but they were met by the patriotism of the land, and, after months of wsrfare, they have been repulsed and defeated. They have been thrott] iw th t Fo we iy tah i cade 10U8 and sacrilegious ery Of dinvr - OM in their throats, ‘ud their fanatical followers have diet the fate which they courted. , ue hear no more of disunion—no more of nul- efication—no more of factional or sectional up- braiding. Henceforth let ws know no North, no South, no East, and no West. Thanks to the pa- triotic friends of the Union, we are again one, re- united and invincible. The crisis, the great crisis, is paseed in safety, and the principle of republican- ism is again as potent, and more so, than it eve, was on the continent of America. Our foreign enemies, who foreboded the dissolution of this confederacy, on the slavery question, have proved to be falee prophets, and our ‘higher law” fana- tics are defeated and prostrate. For the information of the public, we give the following analysis of the vote on the third reading of there bills, the vote on their ultimate passage being the sume, with the exception of Mr. Ashe, C., who did not vote on the latter:— AYES. NORTHERN VOTE. SOUTHERN VOTE. DEMOCRATS 2 ni ry ina, of S wuts Cingmas, NC The House having done so well in relation to Texas and New Mexico, there need be no delay | im acting upon the rest of the Senate bills Doubtiero they will be taken up and passed imme- diately, and after they ure disposed of, both howees ress may adjourn a# soon as they please, firet beving provided means for carrying oa the of Cons government until they meet egain. We again con- gratulate our readers on the passage of those mea- | sures ee ee lial Faswion Free Acaty—Tue Last or tus Cocken Hars —The account of the winding up of the fash- jonable season at Newport, published exclusively by us yesterday morning, iotimates that the ball, on the whole, was a failure. Nothing better could | be expected. The fashionable watering places of the first class, as they ure called by some persons, have been failures this season. The Saratoga ball Such must be the result when the resorts of fashion are turned into arenas for Little ¢ , coteries, and quarrels mnny jervons assembled aad reside weeks, serking pl nothing but envy nery und rm ment; milies were © farhionable elements, the result proved that the simple enjoyments of a ball could net be indalged in with any real satisfaction & The same phenomena have attended the scenes at Newport duriog the leet two months. The pride of birth, the pride of of frivoli ty, have established and carried on a series of little fashionable marches and couatermarches, very amusing to « stranger for a single day, while he could endure such exhibitions, but ending in fothing but a mere attempt at a ball, ia which the many elements mingled in most admired confa- sion. A tame begianing—a comical continuation —and a contemptible conclusion—all growing out of narrow mindedne and emall talk. The real fashion of the country, which has principle, man- mers, elegance, education and refinement, has shunned Seratoga and Newport. It has been found im the fall flush of enjoyment at some of those More retired resorts which are less notorious. For instance, Lebanon Springs—deservedly callea the Baden-Baden of this country—and the Mountsine of New Hampshire, whieh are the Bwitzerland of New England, have heen visited by large numbers of sensible people of fashion. At Lebanon Springs there has been the most delight- was a smell aflair At Saratoga, d for several easure’s «lf dorado, and finding en, uacharitableness, milli Strife wok the place of € aud when the various bloods of various fa- ery —- Poor Gex~ Broadway—Fx..ows' New Yorx Erniorian tempered as to promise a fusion of | eetablichment which Col place, of wealth, of folly, and | White | “ful society, aa suatiae like Sacinas cceibinsl with elegance of manners. Dancing and pic-nies have been enjoyed, notendured. The beautiful mountainous region has echoed to the flying feet and merry veices of happy hundreds, free from the | fetters of absurd and ridiculous conventionality. At | this beautiful resort, hereafter, we may expect the truly refined and intelligent of the country, who seek to benefit their health during our suinmer months, while they delight in the pleasures of charming society. As the White Mountains prove more accessible by railroads, there will be, also, a large number of pilgrims next season. The high ground, the Alpine scenery, will be attractive; and as new and commodious hotels are erected, this region will be more widely opened for the delight of the wearied denizens of cities, seeking health and invigorating air. The curtain has now dropped on the fashionable | drama. The comedy has-been rather farcical. | Elegance has yielded to absurdities and pedigrees. | Quarrels have formed the staple of variety, and all will pack up their wardrobe and return home, after playing their, respective parts according to | their several talents. The ladies who have caught beaux will now strive to keep them, and those who have not obtained them, must wait patiently till realized. All will enter upon the usual sober life of autumn and winter in the metropolis; and though affection may be gauged by one’s admira- tion for Jenny Lind’s vocalization, yet we cannot but hope that many new matches will be made upon this new principle of measuring the qualities of the heart. Some little additions to the ordinary | excitement of the Indian summer, however, may make the metropolis a shade livelier, as the brok- er’s say, for afew weeks to come. Let fashion rage. Music will triumph. Jenny Lind" Concerts—The ” Meket Auc- Uon—The Prize Peem—The Movements of Yesterday, This day. the auction of tickets for choice seats at Jenny Lind’s first concert, takes place at Castle Gerden, and @ most amusin, of allowing speculators te buy up tickets at par, and then sell them at a premium, Mr. Barnum seils them to the highest bidder himself, and will thus put the profit in his own pocket, instead of theirs. The num- ber of tickets sold together will be limited totea. All the seats that will not be disposed of by auction, will be sold at $3, at the ticket office. is may be all right for the first concert or two, thougi, if we were in Barnum’s place, we would start with lower price than even thes dollars, and we would have no auction of choice seate, letting “ first come be first served.” It would have moze of republican equality in it, and would, we think, pay Detter in the end. It is true that a very large sum may poseibly be realised on the first night, nd even om th¢ Second; but there isa long game to be played, and the g"e fou is, which course would be likely to bring shal mous¥ at the winding up of the engagement. If the aristocracy Were as pumerous and as rich here as in London, it would do very well to charge three, or even five dollars for a ticket, and a premium for # choice seat But the epurious codfish aristocracy of New York, who ape the English aristocracy, have not the numbers nor the means to support an exclusive opera. They have made the attempt, and signally failed. All the suc- evesful managers here have succeeded by low prices, and the reason is obvious—Dbecause wealth is not ac- cumulated bere inthe hands of a few.as it is inthe old country, where those few monopolise the epera, and other enjoyments, and the mass of the people can- not afford to pay even a low price to hear # great ager, Here, wealth is diffused among the whole population, and they can all afford to pay a moderate price to aa opera, oF concert, or play, and thus by their numbers they yield as great a remuneration as the European few; but the number who cun afford to pay high prices here is extremely small, and some of those who can afford it, have not the inclination When Malibran, who was a greater general artist then Jenny Lind. performed here, and pectormea ina whole opera, the tickets were two dollars, That was a use such an extravagant price was ery of the opera under Fry, is well readersof the Herald, The prieecharged r, and for secured seats one dollar and ‘These prices were found to be too high, except tor afew white kid glove exquisites, and the campaign failed.
